Chainsaw Man review
Chainsaw Man is a breath of fresh air in today's overly-saturated isekai manga landscape as well as amongst its rivals/comtemporaries in jump. It doesn't rehash traditional character archetypes or stick to long established shonen cliche anime/manga tropes. Instead, it delivers an original, compelling, and even believable work of fiction.

story: 10

At first glance, Chainsaw Man may seem like your typical run off the mill shonen story. where the good guy pummels baddies and saves the day. but right from the get-go, you'll quickly realise that it ain't so typical, it's a morally grey, nuanced read. Chainsaw Man throws convention out of the window and does so right at the beginning with its main character/antihero, Denji, who is just a kid with simple goals and not so noble, but earnest intentions. If you've read author Tatsuki Fujimoto's previous work, Fire Punch, you would know that this author loves throwing curveballs out of nowhere. Chainsaw Man is no different. Just when you expect an outcome of something to head in a certain direction, Fujimoto destroys your preconceived theories in the next chapter, subverting your expectations completely. Some might criticise this unpredicatable narrative as being inconsistent and a turn off. but I disagree completely as it keeps things interesting and leaves you in anticipation for more, and Fujimoto, being the genius that he is, somehow always makes these shocking developments natural and believable.

Art: 8

The artstyle is simplistic and sketch like throughout chainsaw man compared to his previous work but when fujimoto really wants to get his point across, he really nails it. Those double spreads and Fight scenes in particular are really detailed and gorgeous.

Characters: 10

I really appreciate how Fujimoto took the effort to ground the world of chainsaw Man and its characters to reality. They are all very unique with their own quirks and motivations. They are also layered, and get development as things progress. Even the minor side characters are memorable through their various interactions with members of the main cast that are often very movie-like.The world of Chainsaw Man is a bleak, frightening place where death is lurking at every corner, and life is fleeting. As such, I really appreciate Fujimoto's efforts to convey that sense of despair and fragility of life either through sentiments of its characters, or through the plot. When the characters themselves acknowledge the messed up circumstances they are in or how screwed up some things are, it gives the story a sense of realism, if you will.

Final score: 10/10

Overall, Chainsaw Man is an extremely engaging and fun ride. If you are tired of stale, uninspired stories where you know exactly what is going to happen next. You would love Chainsaw Man to death. Just like I do.

Chainsaw Man review
Before I start to review this, I want to do some personal topic. I've lost a friend in this year that loved so much Chainsaw Man, and wanted all along to way to see the end of it and would it be. Well, it couldn't be greater, just like he was to me, so this one for you my friend.

Story: This manga is awesome in whatever they do. The narrative was kinda bizarre but putting in technique terms, it was certainly thought before the first chapter. The author started the story with something and ended it in the same way even if it was different types of telling something. When I mean the same way, it is because the story starts with the understanding of the nature of the protagonist and ended up in the same way, considering all the things that happen. This is so well planned and so perfectly putted in scene that makes me believe this is a truly masterpiece in terms of creative writing and consistency over a plot. (10/10)

Art: The art style is very unique and brings some characteristic style over the story, which makes the universe inserted part of the art. In this way, the universe and the art style is one with the story and answers why the universe is exactly that way. Because of that, the panels are also very thought out, which means that every page has something to tell because of the distribution of the panels. This allied with the bizarre and grotesque and unique style, make Chainsaw Man an art piece by itself. The problem? Because of that style, maybe push away people that would enjoy the manga (8/10)

Character: For me this was a very good point on the manga that made me read it. The characters, besides of the powers demons and stuff, was very realistic. Denjij was a poor boy wanting a fair life, a life with dignity, and the way he had it was because he started to work out of the system, with something kinda illegal before meeting Makima. All the characters had a reason to show up and to do the things that they do, it's the circle of life working through out the story without giving them more power than it should be. It was very logical but still not perfect, what make them great in the manga. The only problem is the amount of characters that weren't explored properly even if they were involved in the whole series, like Kobeni for example. I hope that in part 2 we see something more about them (9/10)

Enjoyment: Just read this goddamn manga already, it's a master piece (10/10)

Overall: Besides the joke on the last statement, is a great and a masterpiece manga. I wish I could give a decimal rate (9.75/10 should be the rate). but it assuming that was impossible, I stay with 9, because I really want to part 2 becoming better than the first one, so I couldn't put the maximum rate considering that I wanted to be overcome the anterior part. Really hyped for that. (9/10)

Chainsaw Man review
oh my god what a waste of time, if im being quiet honest.i started this manga out with high hopes after hearing raving reviews and seeing that MAPPA would be making the anime adaptation. Im left with a feeling of annoyance, emptiness and what was the point of spending all that time on it?

story: 6
to be fair i started to read it and really get into it because i thought the idea of chainsaw man was quiet interesting. honestly it was captivating. but slowly and surly there were just more and more plot holes that kept reoccuring. it just started to feel really lazy, which is sad because the idea of it was really cool if im being honest.

Art 7
honestly asides from the lack of creativity for faces i do have to say there were some amazingly in depth panels and character disigns for the demons were also quiet enjoyable. so despite everything else i would have to give credit where credit is due. the fighting panels were so graphically detailed, if you don't care about plot, or lack thereof, or likeable characters then i would definitely suggest this manga

characters 4
theres so much that i have problems with that it literally pained me to the point of writting a review. Don't get me wrong the main character, wow annoying as all hell, but isnt that the typical case for action mangas? the main character being op and annoying for no reason whatsoever? and dont get me wrong i thought it was quirky to make his main goal to be just enjoying his life and getting a girlfriend but holy fuck was there any character development other than him not wanting to sleep with power?? honestly looking back on it what characters actually contributed anything to the plot and character development other than to serve as fan service, be killed in a gory fashion? like i legitimately cannot explain a singular thing that happened at all durong this manga except for the fact there are demons and he becomes friends with one and merges to become CHAINSAW MAN. like i had such high hopes for this manga but the lack of plot, the unexplained plot holes, the lack of character depth and development just left me with a sour taste in my mouth and annoyed. it honestly felt as if the author gave up halfway after getting too much input and being forced to go a certain direction with the plot that he didnt agree with so he just gave up completely. And dont get me wrong not every manga has to have 500 chapters, or whatever but story telling goes a long way. I had problems with demon slayer beign so short and what i felt, rushed, but in comparison to this, it was a peice of artwork, so majestically written and the story so well told it didnt matter that we didnt get every single detail. But in chainsaw man , this was the downfall. Like if youre gunna hint at the fact that hes some all powerful demon then freaking explain it??? don't just pretend it never happened and that life is peachy keen since he defeated some other demon that had no explanation for existing other than "awww boohoo, sad".

honestly read it for the gore and a few funny quips here and there, but immature and seriously lacking in story telling and basically everything else

Chainsaw Man review
This is probably the first time I've rated something so high. Now before writing this review, i know chainsaw man ends today. I won't be there to make an early review when the final chapter drops... BUT, my review stays final. This is the exact same type of review that I would have made If i wrote after the final chapter.

Now a little true story of mine. Chainsaw Man has given me PTSD. This is not a joke...I heard a chainsaw in my backyard and thought Denji was gonna kill me (This was during the last arc).

This is my second review so I'm not that good in writing them. Now lets get started;

Chainsaw man has left me in a state of despair... Questioning my life... Where am I gonna go? What am I gonna do? This manga has legit FUCKED my mind. All the way from the first chapter to the last... Sitting on the edge of my chair... Clenching my butt cheeks... Enjoying every single bit of it 'till the end.- This is one of the man reasons why I liked this manga.

Story 10: Everyone knows the story of this manga so not much to put here except if gets darker and better

Art 8: I didn't really enjoy the art that much. It's simplistic and sometimes the fights are hard to follow, but the art improved over time and got better. I really liked the design for the devils. Unique and original.

Character 10: Come on. Really? It's pretty obvious i was gonna give character a 10 because EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER in this series are enjoyable. From the best girl Power to the manipulative Makima. Even the Soviet girl and Shark Boy and I won't forget everyone's favorite; Aki.

Enjoyment 10: And you asked me, "if this manga fucked you in the head, why did you continue to read it?"- Because the answer is right there. It fucked me in the head. Which means I liked it. Probably doesn't make sense.

Overall 10;

As concludes, Chainsaw Man is one of my favorite manga of all time and it will go down as one of the BEST manga to run in Weekly Shonen Jump. Thank you for reading my review.

TL;DR
Scroll back up and read my review from the start you lazy piece of shit.

Chainsaw Man review
I really dislike leaving reviews for things still in progress, but I do want to give an actual assessment of this, in hopes people will get a better idea of what's they'll be getting into. When it's done, I might edit this if any of my feelings change.

EDIT: While none of my feelings have really changed from when I originally posted this, I definitely get the impression that things will be better for future parts.

Your enjoyment of Chainsaw Man is going to hinge on how much you enjoy seeing (typically, large scale) balls to walls action with copious amounts of gore. Anything else is meant to further the action, or at least getting there. If that sounds fun to you, then you'll enjoy Chainsaw Man. Otherwise, you're probably going to walk away thinking "Wow, that was the edgiest thing I have read in my life", especially considering it has a notable amount of raunchiness. This isn't to say that the other elements are bad, or even lacking, but it's really nothing that any other shounen aren't already doing on a same, or better level.

Art:
Chainsaw Man's art is really good. I think it does a good job with showing action, and I think the sketchier look helps with the monster design. I think Chainsaw Man's art best shines when it's in black and white pages-- not that the colored artwork is bad, but there's a few details I caught onto that don't translate too well to a colored space.

Don't really have much to say about the human designs, most just wear suits with a couple of accessories separating them from someone else, which might cause you to confuse characters with each others, but outside of that, the artist does a great job with expressions. Monster designs can range from kickass (Antagonist of the international assassins arc) to "Hahaha what the fuck, that's so stupid" (Gun Devil), but most tend to lean on the passable design side.

Story:
An easy Okay/10 from me. Not offensively bad, but nothing too stand out either. If you have read at least a few shounen before, you'll quickly pick up on story beats and how they'll play out. Things move at a breakneck pace, so props to Chainsaw Man for usually doing the minimal amount of dicking around, before getting right back into the action. There's a few tropes that irk me, but it's things to be expected from the genre as a whole, and isn't exclusive to Chainsaw Man (See: Asspulls save the day). Not sure where else to put this, but the raunchiness annoyed me more than I found it funny, which is usually used for comedy.

Again, the story definitely is more just a vehicle to get to the action rather than an actual story, so I think from that perspective, it works pretty well. Just nothing to seriously get invested in.

EDIT: Would like to take this moment as to say I liked the somber scene at the end. It doesn't change my general feelings on the writing, but I wanted to make mention of my favorite scene.

Characters:
I did not care for any of them, and I definitely consider this the weakest element of Chainsaw Man. Denji is our protagonist who is a hedonistic jackass: Understandable given his circumstances, but even then I really couldn't get behind him, seeing as it fucks him over a couple of times, yet he doesn't stop at any time to think "Hm, my hedonism causes problems for me". He doesn't really develop as a character, so much as his standards just change.
Makima just acts suspicious until you find out her deal, and until then she's there to cater to anyone with a femdom fetish. Really nothing to say here without spoilers, so just know my feelings are "Eh" when factoring in spoilers.
Power is literally just Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx with the personality of Harley Quinn. I don't need that in my life, but you might. No shame if you do.
Aki is your Sasuke. Or Todoroki if you didn't see Naruto. Emo dude that warms up to the protag.
Any other characters aren't there long enough for me to have any serious opinions on them.

Conclusion:
While I didn't enjoy Chainsaw Man, I'm also not the audience for Chainsaw Man. I enjoy more story/character focused manga, and I want my action more as a story element than the main thing, and I can enjoy a story without it. So if that sounds like you as well, you can consider this is an easy skip.

If you are someone who enjoys reading manga for bombastic action, or you just want something to turn your brain off to and see some action with cool demons, then yeah, definitely check this out.

Chainsaw Man review
At first look you may think ‘Chainsaw Man’ is nothing more than a super action-splatter, which tries to trigger as many absurd senses as possible. Puke eating, shark riding on a building wall and body parts cutting in all kinds of possibilities, just to name some examples. These brainless extraordinaries are the daily life of this manga and our protagonist Denji. Some of you may think “Yeah man! That’s exactly what I want” and a lot of you think “Holy cow, why should I read something like that? Why is that even popular?!”. To answer the skeptics, let us break this work apart.

Short version
- Overall (9/10):
On the surface you will get a brainless crazy action firework. However, with the time you will experience its dark essence reflecting in this trashy simple story and artwork. The characters are likeable, terrific, natural and very human, and not some shining perfect heroes or narrow-minded world dominators. The special style gives it a bizarre touch of humor and deep emotions, which you really enjoy. But! This simplicity is sometimes like a double-edged chainsaw. It makes the story a bit dull and some twists are really obvious. Nevertheless, it is a great manga in its genre!

Long version
- Story (7/10):
For someone who is already disgusted by the first chapters, it will be hard to continue this series until the point where everything begins to make sense. However, even if the story is on the surface just action-splatter, the core is true brilliance. We follow the life of Denji, later known as Chainsaw Man, and his story is the darkest slice of life that you can imagine. Without spoilers, you will experience a likeable naive stupid guy’s efforts to get a reason to live, with more or less success, a lot of twists and betrayals. In addition, the whole work is so grotesque, that while you are reading you won’t know if you should cry of laughter or sadness.
On the other side, it isn’t a very complex, mind-blowing story. Even if it will surprise you sometimes, partly it’s totally obvious. And of course, all this action-splatter dulls the deep dark story.

- Art (8/10):
Like the whole work, but especially the art, it is a dance on the edge of pure brilliance and total trash! It’s absurd, I know, but that’s the essence of it. In the detail: The art is so simple, you may think it is drawn by a kid. Sometimes the postures of the characters or their movements are really mechanic, unnatural. Backgrounds are almost non-existent or really generic (the same cross a hundred times, the same building in every panel). Then we get such a genius action scene, which is so overwhelming you can smell it! Or using the emptiness of the panels to show the true dark core (2 chapter long genocide, with a wall of text containing the names wof the deceased… Terrific!). And this is the clue! These simplicities combined with the amazing action and darkness you get truly individual artwork, which could be better but reflects perfectly our protagonist. For the monsters you get simple but terrifying designs, the girls are creepy but tempting, our heroes are trashy but outstanding.
This art totally works and gives the grotesque funny touch on a totally not happy story. And that is how you make pure terror funny! Truly absurd, as I said… And yes, you could make a more realistic and complex drawing, like in ‘Berserk’ or ‘Gantz’, but it would lose its bizarre humor.

- Characters (9/10):
After cutting down the “weaker” parts we arrived at the heart of ‘Chainsaw Man’, the characters. Our protagonist Denji, as I mentioned it before is a very likeable, but also stupid and naive person. His desire to find a reason to enjoy life makes him so natural and human, you can truly understand and feel his sorrow. This work is a perfect self-portrait of him. However, it’s not just about him. How we get the explanations of our side-characters behaviour in a few sentences or panels are simple, but effective. Just as their developments. They are really unique, especially for a Shounen Jump manga, important for the story and not just some side-kicks, and on the top of that they are just as human and understandable as our protagonist. Same goes to the villains. Makes them so real horrific and sadistic that you will hate some, but love others. They are not just world domination wanting freaks.
Obviously, the characters don’t have deep complex growth and/or back stories, but again you didn’t need that, to be more natural in this absurd massacre.

- Enjoyment (10/10):
Summary: If you are okay with the action-splatter or maybe into it, you will enjoy this! But if you don’t have the stomach for that you will be soon disgusted. For story lovers it could be boring, however, like as one of my favourites, ‘Gantz’, Mister Fujimoto tells his story mostly in a visual form. Altogether, those who don’t fear mature content (including the story) and are comfortable with all these crazy violence will love this! Especially, I never experienced such an adult work in the Weekly Shounen Jump, which makes it even more unique!

- Comparisons and recommendations:
Mister Fujimoto’s previous work ‘Fire Punch’ is a very similar manga, however, a bit less action and darkness, but on the other hand more deepness. It is definitely recommendable if you liked ‘Chainsaw Man’, but compared it is 1-2 levels weaker.

Chainsaw Man review
So, it's my first review about something, and I think I choose well, I believe this is one of the best manga I've ever read, and is also MY personal favorite, you may be asking: " why would i care if its he's favorite", well let me show you what you will find in this amazing manga, and why it is.(Also English its not my main lenguage so if you find any flaws be considerate)

(If you want a short thing, just go to conclusion at the end of the review)

Story: 9

The story its absolutely amazing, The first time you see it, you may think its a silly concept, like really a guy with a chainsaw in its forehead and its chainsawman. That's what I thinked, but i was very wrong, it has a deep story, and very entertaining aswell, it shows you a lot of things and has a lot of details, I never felt so excited for keeping up with something that i did with this, because sometimes, its just unexpected, and I love it, so overall 9/10

Art: 10

What can i say, it's just amazing, the desing of each demon, the art of the attacks, the blood, its incredible, but my favorite thing was probably the facial expressions they were absolutely detailed and some of them even made me laugh or get worried.

Character: 10

I loved the caracters so much, have you ever gotten the feeling of worrying or hating a character in a book, series, etc, that its sometimes hard to achieve but I think they did this perfectly, each character has their own personality and most of them are enjoyable, maybe there are only 1 or 2 annoying characters, but most of the time its perfect

Enjoyment: 10

Not only did I enjoy the fights that were absolutely amazing, but also the story behind the characters, and mostly how funny some scenes were, I think the author did an excellent job on choosing words, because its just amazing how he nails some details, like in a single scene I was like, dude that is exactly how i thinked of that, and its just very cool.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, please give it a try if you haven't seen it, its a very good manga, with a lot that you can enjoy, and I can assure you, you will not be dissapointed, a lot of things make of this what I call a piece of art, and if you don't like it, well each one has their own opinion.

Thanks for reading.

Chainsaw Man review
This hell of a ride just ended. I got introduced to this series from tons of youtubers recommending it. I gave it a chance and I caught up to chapter 63 in just a day, yeah it was that good.

Story - 10

Right of the bat the series starts with an amazing first chapter, it hooks you in, and there is no doubt in your mind about dropping it. I am almost sure that whenever the anime comes, chainsaw man will be listed as one of the series with the best first episode.
After that, we get introduced to the characters and we get the usual mission arc, which was done is such a different and unique way and it lets you know that you are not going to experience a typical shonen manga. Then the arcs continue and one is better than the other, until you reach that satisfying and fulfilling ending.
The story was a mess, some one could say, but in this whole mess there was a line that connected all those fights, deaths and crazy moments.

Art - 10

Fujimoto's art is phenomenal and messy at the same time. The fights, the character designs, the facial expressions, the gore and everything was so well drawn and portrayed.
Also, the paneling was done in such a genius way, the mangaka used the panels in a way that I have never seen before and he deserves credit for being so creative with it.
As I mentioned before the art is messy and it fits perfectly this kind of story, and when it needs to be beautiful it is, because Fujimoto has this much talent for drawing.

Characters - 10

How can a series have both have the best protagonist and the best antagonist in the new generation of shonen manga?
Lets start with Denji. this character was made to be the completely opposite of a typical shonen protagonist and the mangaka nailed to portray that. No king, not the best, just touch boobs. Yep, that was his goal.
And it was not there just to be different, Denji is a teenager that never got to experience the life of a typical teenager and that is all he wanted really. Why should someone strive for something dreamy, when he has not yet eaten a proper meal. This boy gave his organs, his eye just to have the essential to live and when that girl called Makima appears to give him the life he wanted he grabbed the chance, even though his freedom was taken away.
That is Denji, a teenager with super powers and simple goals like any other normal boy his age.
Other than our protagonist, the are a lot of great side characters and villains, which I really cannot get into, the reason being spoilers.

Enjoyment - 10

The craziness of this manga is what makes it so damn entertaining, Fujimoto said fuck your expectations, because this manga truly gets crazier and better with each twist.
I waited every week for a new chapter of Chainsaw man, because I enjoyed every chapter, so it was an amazing week by week experience. Over this whole mess of a year, Chainsaw man was what kept me waiting for something good to happen each week and I really thank it for that.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series and no matter your age it will also appeal to you.

Overall - 10

In conclusion, Chainsaw man is EPIC.
I wish I got the chance to talk more about it, because there is some minor flaws with it but as I said, spoilers. This series was so quickly paced but it managed to keep you in the main focus of the story but this pace sometimes may be fatal because it doesn't make every single moment as impactful as it could be.
Lets all wait for the second part and anime of this brilliant series, until then..
Thanks, Chainsaw man.

Chainsaw Man review
***Spoiler Alert***

If you disagree with any of my points or my opinion, you are very welcome to shoot me a friend request and I can discuss further on my points.

My personnel opinion of Chainsaw man.

Introduction

I just want to put a disclaimer out before you read this review, I may be bias in my opinion as I haven't read many manga and this is the first time I'm writing a review but I shall try my best. I heard a lot of great things about the manga from TIKTOK and so I chose to check it out. At first I thought it was just gonna be a generic fighting manga and I wouldn't get to attached to it. But I was in for a shock, this manga hits hard.

Story

As of writing this there are currently 89 chapters out. At first the story seemed to follow the pretty common theme of the MC coming close to death or something really bad happening and plot armour saving the MC. In this example Denji merging with Pochita and becoming some demon dude, later known as chainsaw man. Except with this story it turns into a rabbit hole and things start to unravel one by one. Overall I think the story is pretty unique and well thought out. This is because it doesn't really copy from other manga and I think it isn't very similar to many other mangas. However that being said I haven't read many manga at all so I could be wrong by saying that. I think the theme of contracts with demons and gaining their power is pretty cool and clever.

Art

I feel that the art style is amazing, that being said I don't think its very unique when compared to manga like JOJO. As the story develops and especially in the later chapter I think the art style and some of the panels are absolutely brilliant. I may be bias in saying that as I prefer the darker and gory anime and manga, and I think this manga depicts the fights and violence very well through the detail and pacing.

Characters

I thoroughly love the MC. I think he is unique in the way in which he doesn't have an idol and he doesn't really have any goals. This is shown through his background of having nothing and only having the bare minimum to survive. Denjis personality and development of his personality as a whole is brilliant and really adds to the overall story and how it plays out. All they other characters get a fair amount of development and at the end of the day there side characters and its not that necessary for them to have backstories.

Enjoyment

I found myself on my the edge of my seat quite literally at points of reading it. I enjoyed it immensely and would highly recommend it to others for a good read.

Negative Points

I have read that people feel the boob joke is childish but I would have to disagree. This is definitely aimed for the teenage range of readers and so this is reflected with the teenage MC. Firstly because the MC is only 16, he is at the awkward stage of life where girls are on his mind and puberty is still causing havoc to his hormonal teenage brain. Secondly you combine this with the fact that he's been hunting demons since his dad died and the though of girls have never crossed his mind and now all of a sudden he's taken in by hottie of course his hormones will kick in.
I also seen people calling it overhyped, but I'm confused to as how it is overhyped. I believe it deserves all the hype it gets.

Overall Opinion

I really enjoyed all aspects of the manga and would definitely recommend it to other people.

Chainsaw Man review
Chainsaw Man is a different kind of bizarre, unlike any Shounen Jump manga I've read. From the author who brought us Fire Punch, an equally bizarre manga, comes a story about a dude who just wanted to get laid at first. While at first, I thought the author was just throwing random ideas at the wall and seeing what would stick, most of them come together by the end of Part I (chapter 97).

The story of this manga seems to revolve around Denji as he's our main protagonist but it mostly revolves around the entity inside Denji, Chainsaw Man. There aren't many exposition dumps in this manga so a lot of the world is learned through just experiencing the manga which I feel is much better than throwing endless words at the reader explaining everything. Things just happen in this manga, there are sometimes explanations on abilities and backstories, but even then it's minimal. The author wants you to learn more about this world with Denji instead of being spoon-fed. Although, I feel the world-building could have been better, which I hope is the case with the sequel manga. The main creatures/monsters in this story are devils and they are usually what our protagonists are fighting. They get stronger and stronger the more the population fears certain things. For example, if a lot of people fear rats, then the rat devil will be stronger than other devils. The rest of the story is a treat. It's filled with bizarre characters, visual storytelling, interesting ideas and moments, and uncomfortably hilarious when it wants to be.

The art of this manga is probably the best part of this experience. The art style is rough and almost sketch-like, adding to the atmosphere of this gritty world. The imagery is something to behold in this manga, they're detailed, unrelenting, and flows extremely well. The imagery, especially in the second half of the manga, is unfathomable but beautiful. There isn't much else to say except that it has some of the best art out of its contemporaries at Shounen Jump.

The characters are weird, in a good way of course. It's kinda hard to talk about them without spoiling but I'll try my best. Denji is a pretty plain main character at first but as you continue this journey with him you understand him more. He matures and you, as the reader, understand how unfortunate his life has been. By the end of Part I, I respected Denji and how he lives life. However, I find the other characters to be far more interesting. Power is a very happy go lucky character that just does whatever she wants, but is an entertaining character nonetheless. You see her start to care more about Denji as the story progresses. Kobeni is probably my favourite character out of the bunch just due to how her character is used. She became this tool that uses her plot armour to create dark humour (which I created a video about, https://youtu.be/lfeGF4I9P9Q). She's just a very entertaining character. Aki is the character we learn the most about aside from Denji. He has a tragic backstory that forged him into the kind of guy he is in the manga. And lest not we forget Makima. Probably the most intriguing character in the manga. Her twisted personality and way of doing things make her a great character to analyse. She's probably the character that stuck with me the most throughout the manga because of her psyche. Overall the characters in this manga are great even the ones that have little screen time.

This manga is a real treat overall. The story is interesting and filled with great characters, visual storytelling, and ideas. While the world-building could've been better, the announcement of a sequel has me hoping this is the case. The art is some of the best out of its contemporaries at Shounen Jump. It has a rough texture to it, fitting the atmosphere of this gritty world. And the imagery is fantastic. The characters are for the most part great and have entertaining motives. Some characters like Makima are complex enough to warrant an entire analysis alone. And overall I think this manga is great and can't wait for the anime adaptation and sequel.

Chainsaw Man review
Wasted potential. Not terrible, but it could have been SO much more.

Credit where credit is due, this has top notch art and character design, a gruesome and dark tone that I find to be lacking in the shounen genre, and some very interesting concepts. This solid base and some of the exciting action moments are the only reasons why I rated this anything more than a 5. If you don't care about plot, this is a fun read with cool moments.

That being said, the story and half-assed characters completely spoil this manga. After the first few plot developments, it nosedives into random events and ass-pulls that try so hard to be cool and engaging, but end up jarring and ruining the flow (the first bout in hell with Darkness is a prime example). It's clear now that the story has devolved into endless plot twists, I could hardly bring myself to continue reading. If you have read Dorohedoro to its end, you know what I mean. All of this amounts to a read that feels like a waste of time, as opposed to something rewarding. If the reader puts in any effort to pay attention to the small details and rules of the world, plot holes appear one after another.

The characters are nothing special, and while they have cool designs in terms of looks, they are just your basic one-dimensional shounen tropes. Another MC who's main motivation is to fondle boobs. Nice. The edgy supporting character who saw his family get killed and is now out for revenge. Cool. I would hardly call Makima a character, the author just uses her to move the plot along whenever convenient. To top it off, the lives of the characters are so devalued by random deaths, while others are seemingly immortal. This makes it very difficult to get attached or invested in the characters.

Now that I got that out there, I just want to re-emphasize that the art and character design is REALLY good, and the fight scenes are interesting. However, the story has gotten so bad that I want to believe it's some intelligent satire of the shounen genre, but I know that's just my desire to think I didn't waste my time reading this.

Chainsaw Man review
WARNING! HEAVY SPOILERS!

At first, it all started with cliché shonen manga classic. Devils, contracts, etc. But don't let it turn you down. Chainsaw Man is nothing like any Shonen Jump manga you have ever seen. One of the best things about it, mc feels like a real person rather than a fictional character. The author is a true master in this part, representing Denji's (main character's) like he is a real human being. His development as a character is astonishing, which makes easy for audience to emphatize for him. Oh, and overall story gets so unpredictable there are lots of plot twists. So go on and read Chainsaw Man.

Story:
I started the manga with very low expectations, thinking this will also turn out to be another cliché shonen. Now I regret thinking that way. Thanks to its twist villain and heavy gore Chainsaw Man caught the "Berserk" title of shonen. Chainsaw Man definitely has a great story. I won't praise the first few arcs, they made me feel real bored. As I said before, Chainsaw Man is a manga that you should give time. I believe every arc except the gun devil and control devil were trash. Thought i really loved reze so i also wont count bomb devil arc. But the point im trying to get into is, the beginning of the story is pretty dumb yet in the final arc turns into a masterpiece.

Lore:
I don't think the world in chainsaw man is that big or comprehensive. But I don't it doesn't need a solid worldbuilding or anything to have a good story. At least for Chainsaw Man. Since it takes in an imaginary era where devils and devil hunters exist, its a pretty common plot we are all used to also for other anime and manga. But the idea of no one ever hearing about Nazis because they were devoured by the Chainsaw Devil was a mind blowing one. And the time I learnt that the only people who weren't killed by Gun Devil were people who were bornt at mutual months was also a unique idea.

Cast:
Denji is a pretty unusual shonen protagonist, since you rarely see pervy protagonist. But except his pervy part, Denji is someone who wants to have a happy life yet ends up in a dump after a while(not for the ending though). I really liked his dialogues and characteristics, making him fit someone like him. He is a pretty well-written character. For the rest of the character cast, idk what to say since its not a huge cast and many of them eventually end up dying. But I really liked them. Power was a heroine we needed for many other series. She is way better than any other fanservice girl protagonists. I really love her strong sides. Aki is also fine. Not like Sasuke or some side character full of mediocre and cockyness. I felt real sad for his death. Kobeni is,in my opinion, the cheerleader of the story. I really like her and her shy personality. Reze is my favorite character in the manga. Her caring thoughts for Denji were pretty touching. Had a well design for her devil form and really enjoyed her savage side.

Makima (especial situation):
I especially wanted to talk about Makima under another title, since I got a lot to say about her. In many parts of the media, I saw a lotta people comparing Makima to Griffith, due to both turning out to be the twist villains and also for killing companions of the mc they have thought as similar characters. And some even consider Makima as a very well-written character. I won't be trying to prove them they are wrong and I'm right or anything. I just want to share my personal thoughts on them. In my opinion, Griffith and Makima are completely different characters. It's true they are similar but Griffith is an awesomely written character, but Makima isn't. Why? Griffith is the guy who sacrificed because of the dream he followed for his entire life. His dream was to build an empire everyone can peacefully live. His motives were certain and reasonable. But Makima just killed Aki and Power to lead Denji to despair. She had no motives and reasons. Which is why I believe she is a pretty worthless villain. Of course, I would consider her as the driving force of the story. Probably, this story wouldn't have been this good without her acts. Her cold-blooded personality really gets on my nerves though.

Chainsaw Man review
I've heard alot of good things about this manga and now that it has finally ended I sat down and read it all in one sitting, surprisingly this did not take much time even though there are 97 chapters the majority of the work is textless whereas some chapters of manga can take upwards of 10 minutes to read due to how dense they are CSM is the complete opposite.

The art and concept are very cool, never saw anything like it before. The problem with this manga is it does not at all live up to the hype I do not understand why its so widely regarded as good.

The story meanders and is all over the place. I was finally getting into the arc with Reze and then I got completely lost, it's incredibly difficult to piece together what is going on and follow along, the writing is just all over the place it feels like entire chapters are skipped with how much the story jumps around. The conclusion of a massive arc with all the build up is done in the course of one chapter, nothing is ever appropriately explained, characters completely change motivations and attitude the rules set up prior are completely broken. One of the arcs has an idea and villain introduced in one chapter only to never be brought up again, if you removed the chapter from the series the it would have no effect on the work as a whole.

There was never a power dynamic set up or explained, there are no ways to judge the strength of any of the devils, and there aren't enough battles to even have the kind of growth Denji has in power. Above all else there are no stakes, there is no fear of Denji dying at any point in the series because he just always wins. Why? Just cause. Even bleach had some kind of hamfisted explanation for a random powerup, this manga doesn't even attempt to do that.

Ok so the art is great, maybe that is why people like it. Despite the art being at a high level, the design and layout of the manga make it difficult to even tell what is going on, there is barely any variation in the design of the devils so the fighting scenes are actually the worst part of this manga, its like trying to extract meaning from modern art which is some squidward looking chick bleeding and shitting on an easel. Couple this bizarre artistic direction with the continual skips and paradigm shifts in the story and it really doesn't become worth reading when you have the option to do something else with your time.

In the end, CSM is okay, its not a 10 and its certainly not a 1. It's just ok. I probably would have dropped it had it not been so widely regarded as good. Even memekina isn't that great of a character or even fleshed out in the story. Maybe part 2 will be more coherent, I will not be going on that journey though thanks.
