Black Clover review
Disgusting... Plain and simple. A concept robbed from numerous works that seemed to be so cliché, it made you think in the beginning that it may have potential to only be utterly disappointed. I am going to honest I first read the first volume of this manga 3 years ago and fell in love. Now fully caught up and 188 chapters deep all I see is an undeveloped waste of potential and waste to my young heart of years ago.

Story 1/10: This story is basically every popular shounen manga regurgitated to form a very bland, annoying and very repetitive mess! The plot has been receiving a quite abundant amount of flack because of it's similarities to these other manga, which completely is lacking in originality and could be considered as 'straight up' plagiarism in a sense, and since Black Clover completely pales in example to manga such as Naruto and Fairy Tail. Naruto especially as the protagonist of Black Clover as very similar characteristics to Naruto some examples include; the fact that they refuse to give up, they are aiming to become the leader of their nations. Perhaps this is a common trait for "Shounen Manga MC", but my only problem is that Naruto excellent writing does this attributes right whilst Black Clover doesn't. Another problem with Black Clover's Story is how rushed it is and how annoying it becomes, the main protagonist has NEVER lost a fight, forming a very predictable outcome for every arc making it very repetitive.

Art 9/10: I am not even going to beat around the bush and be up front the art is truly spectacular with some draw dropping pieces of art intertwined into this manga.
Which makes me ever so frustrated of how good Black Clover could have been.

Character 1/10: The main protagonists very nature is clearly derivative of Naruto as mentioned earlier, it becomes very annoying to me as a reader to always see the same thing happen throughout the continuing 188 chapters, a normal arc consists of Asta (the protagonist) getting beaten easily and being told to give up, later he states he will not give up, then beats the villian.

Enjoyment 1/10: The formula above makes my blood boil leaving all of the enjoyment I must have had in the early chapters, Its Bland, Annoying and Repitive story all eventually leaves for a very low enjoyment.

Overall 3/10: I see Black Clover as a manga that was made to exploit the very prominent shounen genre by infesting it with cliche and ideas from other works. I see Black Clover as not something made by its author Yuki Tabata as a way to make money not a form of entertainment or art. But for some reason I keep coming back for the new chapter with hope that something will change.

This manga to me seems to be a waste of potential.but may be found interesting by people just getting into manga.

Black Clover review
This review will probably tick off a whole lot of people so if you're the kind of person that really can study and appreciate art and/or you dislike Black Clover in general, I suggest you *don't* read this. Note, I haven't read every single volume of Naruto, but I do have a general idea of what happens.

Black Clover gets a whole lot of shit for a. being based off of cliché archetypes and tropes and b. the anime. I want to clear something up, Black Clover kind of only exists for the battles and the fun. It really doesn't try very much to be a deep manga, with what we have so far. It really just tries to have as much fun as it possibly can.

~Super minor spoilers that probably won't affect you reading the manga - I'm literally just talking about characters and their characteristics.~

Story: (6) With that being said, however, if you want a manga with genuinely good story and great character development, don't come running to Black Clover. Like I said earlier, it's not a very hard manga to follow. It has a simple storyline and focuses on the battles. Another pretty positive point is that the manga gets shit done. No arcs are really pulled to beyond what they need to be; each arc finishes off quite tidily with a satisfying ending.

Character: (5) There are a few things that I don't love about Black Clover - among them is how easily people are swayed by Asta, or how easily they fall in love with them.

Another major problem I have is the tsundere personality Noelle displays. I get that Black Clover is trying to push to have at least a little bit of romance, but I think Noelle would be a better character if she fell in love not because Asta saved her and "oh look he's so powerful" and tons of stuff like that. I just really wish Yuki Tabata would let Noelle have her own slow "falling for Asta." The tsundere archetype kind of betrays the image of Noelle developing and becoming more self-confident. It would be much better if Noelle trusted Asta as a comrade but didn't have all her self-confidence stemming from Asta saying "you can do it." There are other characters I could bring up, but Noelle's ticks me off the most.

Art: (8) One really positive part is that the art is pretty fan-fucking-tastic. I don't have the best taste in art, but I can say that the character designs are rather unique. Each noble family has their own outward appearance that could help you guess "Oh, so-and-so probably comes from so-and-so." Not only that, their appearances reflect their personalities. For example, Mimosa has a soft and kind appearance, with her fluffy hair and kind smile. The battle scenes are pretty kickass and the powers are pretty unique.

Enjoyment: (9) Like I said at the start, Black Clover is not a story-based manga. It has mini arcs and most of the battles are predictable, but Black Clover's just such a fun manga. It has a variety of characters with more or less one single character trope attached to them, but it tries to be fun. The battles, the stupid comedy. It's all just fun with a few arcs that develop the characters a little, but it really doesn't try too much to be deep.

Overall: (7) In all, I don't dislike Black Clover. I would tune in every week to see what stupid shit that Asta and his gang get into. And yeah, while there are some pretty huge things that tick me off, I think the pros outweigh the cons for me.

Black Clover review
I normally do not write reviews but i have enjoyed this manga so much i feel that i must. Before i say anything it is not a cliche. At least not anymore than anyother shounen out there.

This is a series about a young man named Asta who dreams about becoming wizard king and has since he was a young boy. He grew up in basically the country. Known to be poor, broke, and produce people with low magic ability. Peasants born there are already looked down upon and most people believe that only nobles can be magic king.

Asta was born as the lowest of the low. Even his fellow peasants look down upon him because he has absolutely zero magic as in none at all. He can not perform the simpliest of magical tasks. However he never gave up on his dream and worked hard from the very beginning thus training his body physically a lot. He was granted with an anti magic power that negates magic.

Asta's rival is a magical genius. They grew up in the same town and in the same orphanage as brothers. They are close friends and see each others as equals both wanting to surpass the other. Neither can stand the other being looked down upon or bad mouthed about and they when they fight together, they fight TOGETHER. Both of them have saved the other one or more times

I in no was see this as a cliche unless you just plain hate the shounen genre period. While there are aspects similar to other series, you need to realize there is no longer an entirely 100% original idea when it comes to literature anymore. Even romeo and juliet wasnt an original idea. There are many things that set this series apart from others. First of all the mc wasnt born with a natural power nor did he obtain one by luck or early in his youth. He isnt a saiyan, he doesnt have the nine tailed fox, he never ate a devil fruit and etc. Asta has worked hard from a very young age despite not have ANY power. Eventually he was rewarded for his hard work. It wasnt just luck. Had he given up at any moment he would never have gotten the power. Something else that sets this series apart is the rival. I have read many series with a rival who wants to surpass the mc or vice versa. However i have never read a shounen manga where the rivals are on such great terms who think so highly of one another. Yuno is a normaly cool and stoic character but you never see him meet asta without managing to smile and you can tell that he always enjoys their meetings. Also if we want to talk about something different, the mc even has a little harem. Plus instead of being oblivious to love he has a girl he likes and has liked since the beginning (though tbh he is oblivious of the other girls feelings and his crush is kinda a joke). Not to mention you a actually know why he is happy go lucky. Instead of most mc's who are just born that way he had to be postive otherwise he would have long given up and lost to all the insults he gets

Tl;dr

Cliches (pretty much all shounen cliches):
-mc with a big dream
-genius rival
-really positive mc/mc acts like a kid
-people mock mc dream

Unique elements:
-mc has a little harem
-mc and rival act like bffs and brothers
-mc has no natural ability nor did he get one by lock
-mc has a little harem
-mc has a crush

Tbh its kinda like if a certain magic index decided to say "ya know what" and became a shounen.

Black Clover review
ok so I want to say this first if you don't like shounen you will hate this it is shounen threw and threw, so if you aint down for some spunky protagonist shouting about teammates don't bother but if you do enjoy this genre and its trappings you might want to give it a shot

Story: the story is solid it does a pretty decent job fleshing out its power system and adds a nice ting of politics that feels more at place in a seinen or dark fantasy but it doesn't get bogged down in its nihilistic setting allowing you to infer into the world and what injustices the lead may be overlooking (its kinda cool to think about it that way but I guess you could read it flat if your a stick in the mud :p). overall the story is solid with enough twists in an interesting world that it keeps you engrossed and does nothing to break suspension of disbelief or drive one to depression. 7/10

Art: the art is passible some character designs are pretty cool but definitely pretty standard for a jump manga 7/10

character: ok so this is where I think the manga is at its best overall I cant credence to the idea that the characters in Black Clover are in the slightest bit original like they basically checked of every archetype in the book even tsundere, but they are all so fun even though they fall into archetypes they are all rationalized and their interplay is truly a delight. I cant stress enough that this can not be enjoyed with a cynical perspective going in this story requires a lot of good will but if you go in wanting to like it you will each main character is very charming and theirs is a decent percentage of the time spent on them as characters that it doesn't just feel like they are just husks with powers that the main TRYHARD can utilize to achieve his goal of being king. ( I just want to add this in here where I am their have been some pretty interesting hints that the lead could become a pretty cool character but it might go no where ... eh heres hopeing) 8/10

enjoyment: that last part plays a big role in determining this next score Black clover constantly has me thinking of what will happen next its rife with clues and genre trappings that give a seasoned veteran plenty to work with but its not afraid to subvert expectations from time to time. its highly engrossing and realy good at making you want to read more I don't know if it will fall apart some day it might but as of now I can confidently say this is a very enjoyable read. 9/10

overall: its a solid shounen that will scratch that childish ich you have to watch some overpowered badiess get socked in the face :) 8/10

Black Clover review
The fact that people compare this manga to Naruto is appalling to me, as I don't think Kishimoto wrote his series blindfolded. Maybe that was too far, as the panels I have seen thus far were quite nicely illustrated, it's just a shame that the storyboard for the story itself has about as much depth as the shallow splash pool the toddler that wrote the series splashes about in after drawing the sixth boring, repetitive and unimaginative fight scene for that week's issue.

For one, the characters. If you search up an image of the black clover characters you'd think it was a game of Guess Who?. The characters in the series itself are almost as copy and paste as the tropes of the cast it managed to stitch together from last week's copy of shonen jump. To start, the main character, Asta, is like a drag and drop of about 20 other series. Spiky hair? Check. Loud voice? Check. Personality with about as much development as a cow fetus in the dairy industry? Check, Check, and CHECK. If you tried to describe Asta to someone without mentioning the show or his name, you'd think that he was the unfortunate product of a character shipping fanfic.

Secondly, the story. The story of Black Clover, to go as far as to even call it that, is beyond terrible. The only things done right are how well it can plagiarize the overused cliches in other series, and how often it can use them. The story of black clover consists of; Bad thing happens, MC gets mad, Screams a few times, Wins, rinse and repeat a few hundred times

finally, to cut this short as not to think about this series too much longer, black clover is for someone who does not read manga too often, as their attention span is more suited to picture books and children's cartoons. All in all, if you're looking for anything more than a paper towel in case you spill your drink, move your hand a little to the left at the bookstore and grab anything but this poor excuse of a series.

Black Clover review
(i'm not english so you may find some errors here and there)
I really don't understand people hating Black Clover and calling it a Naruto Rip off. I loved Naruto (manga) and re-read it 2 times. I really liked it even if there were some weak points, like in every story. Back to Black Clover. I really enjoy this manga. A Classic Battle shonen that can easily be one of the "Bigs" if Jump. I agree that there are a LOT of cliché, but Tabata succesfully present them in his own way. We should also remember that everyone take ispiration from other people. With that being said i also wanted to underline how Black Clover take ispiration a bit from Naruto (not that much, i mean. Just becaue the MC wants to be the Magic Emperor he becomes the Naruto/hokage thing? these are very diiferent charachter and stories), but mostly from other manga like the early/good fairy tail.

-Story (9)

It's start quite simple. A world with magic, people with stronger magic are the best and poor people with low magic are trash. The MC is magicless, the rival is OP. Kinda cliché, in the premise, but reading and progressing in the story we can go deep in the world of Black Clover where we can see the theme of Nobility and commoners, the differences between classes, the backstories of characters and the antagonists and enemies with their misteries. Every chapter let me wanted the next, even the "filler" ones. One of the good or bad points of the story is also the pacing. Black Clover is super fast paced, and if you read it without prejudice it captures the reader easily. Early chapter are also slow in the story, presenting cliché to build up character and background, but it gets better quickly.

-Art (9)

The art is very peculiar IMHO. I really like the not-tipical-manga-but-also quite-classic-manga-Art of Black clover. I find it in this way, The battles are really well drawn. I Find it overall a very good art that looks even better in the Anime adaptation and really let the reader get involved in the story. The art is also perfect with the comedy of Black Clover.

-Character (9)

Character like Yami, Julius are really really good. Every character has their own personality and background. I find the cliché only the base of the character. Noelle for example is the classic Tsundere girl that's later falls for the MC. But the Tsundere factor and the OP factor of her skills is just a part of her story made also by her family and the relatonship with it. The MC on the other side is very stereotypical and not that deep at this moment. Is a perfect Battle Shonen MC, but not too special. It has good potential owever because of his lack of "talk no jutsu" (Naruto, this is against you), and his spontaneus acting in his situation. Yes, he doesn't give up ecc. ecc. He's weak at magic but strong in phisical. His only capability is to be so "magicless" and so be able to use the power of his weapon to be OP. Non really that OP, but kinda. Also the main rival is very interesting and there is not the love/Hate relationship between them like Sasuke and Naruto, and neither the Hate/DAMNNERD relationship between Deku and Bakugou (speaking of another new Big). Is more a relationship based on a simple frienship and pure rivalry. It's so simple that works very well.

Enjoyment (10)

I'm always chatting with my brother about the latest chapter or speculating about what will appen. I tend to read Black clover every week even before MHA (that everyone loves, and i too). This just to say that it really is interesting. Is very enjoyable, comical and intrigant. It doesn't not pretend to be the best of the best (it even jukes itself sometimes), but to be very good and i thing that the comedy, the battles and the story mixed togheter really underlines the chances for this manga to be one of the Bigs of Jump.

Overall (9)

Is good, really, and i say even if i like a lot Naruto, MHA and even Fairy tails (when it wasn't all "power of friendship"). If you don't like it after reading at least 30-50 chapters, it's ok, i get it. If you say that you don't like it after reading a little full of prejudices, please, continue without those prejudices. If you just don't know it or you think it's not good because of "it's a rip-off bla bla" then i higly suggest to give it a try. Black Clover is a great manga

Black Clover review
Like so many have said before, Black Clover (from now on BC) is cliché if you've read any shounen before you will have a lot of déjà vu moment.
That said it's not as terrible as some can say or as the anime can make it seems.

Story:
Surprisingly, BC's story isn't that bad or even that cliché, it does start like your usual shounen with Asta (the MC) and Yuno (the rival) getting their power and deciding to compete to become the wizard king. Obviously, MC is an underdog and goes into the misfit team, women fall for him, he discovers that he has some super ultra rare totally not op power, happen to be in the middle of every big event, ... the usual.
But the author manages to develop and hint at something bigger happening in the background, which ends up making for a rather good twist.
That said after that twist everything goes down with asspull left and right.

Art:
Most of the time it’s okay, the usual quality for shounen manga but it can become really good, especially during big fights, and the character's design is good most of the time. However, the background and the world, in general, is rather bland.

Characters:
The second biggest weakness of the series, most of them are bland and cliché, and the character development is really shallow, most characters will do a 360 and resolve their problems in one fight, at worst a day or 2 with the MC.

The fight:
Surprisingly for that kind of series the fights are bad, like really bad. First, except for 1 fight (maybe 2), there's no strategy, the characters always won thanks to getting some last-minute power-up or using some asspulled never introduce before power. And I know some people will say that the character gaining new power during the fight is part of the power system, but then why does it only happen for the MC and his fried and never for the enemy, the power system does a really bad job at explaining what is, in the end, some power of friendship bs.
And speaking of the power system it's also rather bad, powers are most of the time very loosely defined, mana is never a problem except when the plot needs it, apparently, there's a system of weakness between element but since everything is won by bs power it's basically never user.
And obviously, the MC never goes down but most antagonists only need one bs new power move to be defeat.
Everybody seems to have superhuman strength and resistance without any justification, especially Asta. And speaking of Asta, the author shouldn't have given him swords if they work as a club and never cut any opponent, only inanimate objects and living being that can regenerate.

You may have noticed that the last 2 categories were rather negative, but the manga is really good on 1 thing: its pacing. The story is quick with good transitions between each event. And that alone is what let the manga be a fun quick read and not garbage, but it's also one of the reasons why character development is rather bad.

Overall it's far from being a great manga but if you like shounen and want some quick funny story then it's a good choice.

Black Clover review
Black Clover honestly changed my life for the better!
in a year where everything was shit, in a phase of life where every single step I
take is stressful it gave me a fun and emotional outlet.

Story & Characters:
when I started reading the manga I was caught up with the anime and wanted more! I agree that when the series started it was generic, basic and at some points even boring but i still kept watching. I don't really know why I continued
watching it, but now as I reflect on the past i realize that it was the characters!
The characters were very memorable and their backstories were very believable
in the world the story was set. The Black bulls vs Veto fight was when I started
to feel kind of motivated to just do something productive...like exercising, studying etc.

I started to exercise even tough i recently had a surgery...my grades started to climb and everything just felt like it was going according to plan..and then dropped the show! Its because of the animation...
But after 6 months I picked up the Manga!

The Art:
I freaking love the art...and the character designs...especially Nero's.
God LvL.

Enjoyment:
The manga now is in the midst of an overseas arc where things are starting to get spicy! The story is just so bombastic that you just feel like you have clinical depression when you catch up!

Overall:
Asta has really been a role model in my life. Everything he does just makes sense.

I really think that this is a manga for every age group.
This manga is close to my heart.

Black Clover review
Black Clover is your standard typical shounen manga. If you like shounen manga such as naruto, bleach, one piece etc you might like this however if you are annoyed by the troupes in shounen manga such as main characters being weak and looked down on but never giving up then you will probably not like this.If your looking for something different from normal shounen you wont find it here its the typical shounen.
Story:7 Basic breakdown of the story is young orphan boy with no magical power whatsoever in a magical world wants to become the Emperor Magus basically the ruler of magicians/the strongest. The story is ok seen it done many times but cliche doesn't necessarily mean bad.Its average however i still enjoy it.
Art:7 The art is pretty average nothing spectacular.

Character:7 The characters are average nothing much to them really seen these types constantly in other shounen. The main character aster is the a carbon copy of what shounen main characters tend to be.He is dumb knucklehead, honest and pure of heart has no magic power in a world that values it and is discriminated against because of it yet he never gives up and wants to become the greatest magician. While the other main character is the standard rival type of character who is a genius though he is a true friend who respects aster's will to never give up.

Enjoyment:7 I enjoy reading this however i don't really have high expectation so far its pretty average its not the best thing ever or the worst just average.

Overall:7 If you want a new shounen to read then you might want to check this out but don't have too high a expectation because its pretty much the same stuff we always see in shounen not that that's bad though.

Black Clover review
To begin, I am going to write this review after knowing that Black Clover is deemed one of the worst manga for anyone, any age (posted on animenewnetwork).

And... I don't think it feels like Naruto... nope... almost zero.

Story:8
To be honest, the story has too much similarity to Fairy Tail and Nanatsu na Taizai (no Naruto here, sorry). For example, the beginning of Black Clover is quite similar to Fairy Tail, and all the friendship and combo stuff. Meanwhile, the main character's destiny and main storyline feels similar to Nanatsu na Taizai (since I do not want to put spoilers, I'll just leave it at here.

Anyways, the plot is pretty straightforward, and like most shounens, this manga has a lot of comedy and action. One part that really made me read through to the latest chapter at one go was the way the story was presented. In particularly, it has the One Piece feel thanks to the main character's personality and his "nakama". Another interesting thing about this manga is that while it has a lot of focus on "things you can't do alone without comrades", it does not overly exploit the theme of "friendship can beat everything, even when initially you lost terribly and when you are injured you still can win", like Fairy Tail. This is where it is interesting, as it is less predictable than a lot of shounen manga (which is one reason why I like One Piece so much too).

Art:9
The art is kinda similar to Nanatsu na Taizai but better, 2 of the more obvious similarities is Asta->Meliodas, and Noelle->Diane.

Kudos to the art especially, since a lot of work seem to have been put into the details seeing how much spells they used. At this I can simply say that the Comic Con voters cannot be trusted to value quality work, since when you say some manga is the worst, it includes all aspects, and it is simply ridiculous.

Character:9
Well, since the characters seem familiar to other manga, why did I give it a 9?
The MCs Asta and Junos are kinda similar to Natsu and Gray in Fairy Tai and more similarly to Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The irregular at magic high school), which is the despised strong vs the popular strong concept, and the despised MC gets slowly recognised to be popular concept.

And yea, no Naruto feels here, cos if every rivalry makes people think of Naruto, then most shounen manga would be rip-offs (E.g. Meliodas/Ban in Nanatsu, Allen/Kanda in D.Grayman etc.) In fact, Naruto seems like it went for the Talented bad kid/Weak kid gets stronger concept, but in Black Clover, Junos was always on the good side, and Asta was never weak except in the one most treasured area, magic (Shiba Tatsuya anyone?).

Well, aside from all the comparisons, just by itself, the characters are great as most of them complement each other, and there is quite some development not only with Asta, but with other side characters (especially in terms of family background and rivalries). One lacking part though, is regarding Junos. Up to chapter 78, he is still not as developed in terms of character or background as the others, so he is kinda like a side character at this point. Which is a shame, and makes this clearly different from the Natsu/Gray rivalry.

Enjoyment:10
Well, this is one of my favourite shounen thus far, it does not drag out a lot of chapters via one versus one fights, though at some points it reminds me of Zatch Bell and Bleach in fighting scenes. The comedy is mostly funny as well.

Overall:9
Although there are quite a lot of cliched settings here and there, I can't say this is a rip-off of any one manga since I see a lot of references from several manga I mentioned (but not really Naruto). However, the lack of many one versus one battles and the inclusion of some unique concepts made this an excellent shounen manga for me.

Black Clover review
Black Clover is one of the most generic shonen I ever read. I don't know about the recent chapters but few months ago when I bought the issue, it's ranked like decent?? What the hell? And how come this gets a 7.5 when it's worse. Actually, how come the editorials of WSJ is letting this run?

BUT if you are just starting off with manga and anime, I think this is the manga for you. Black Clover has most of the typical shonen tropes packed in and maybe a good introduction to these tropes. But if you are looking something different in a shonen, this is not the manga for you.

It’s full of cliche but it’s not always bad as long as it’s handled well. But the cliches in this is handled very poorly.

Story:3
The story is like the author ripped off from Naruto. Asta wants to become the Sorcery something? Hokage Wizard Edition? I mean, I don't think it's always bad to have some similarity, but really though. The similarity in this manga with Naruto is too apparent to let it slide. Even with some of the direction the characters are going. I could give credit to how the humor is handled though. It wactually made me laugh.

I'm convinced that Tabata Yuki took the chance that Naruto was ending and decided to make a manga that fills the whole that Naruto left.

Art:8

The art is the only good thing about this. I actually like the style. Designs of each character's look appealing. The backgrounds oh my god they’re really nice.

Character: 3

The characters are the worse. Asta another of those generic "hot headed, loud mouth, never gives up cause nakama is with me" type. And further more Asta is first presented as the “underdog” type of character because he can’t use magic. The main message of this manga is probably that “no matter what you’ll achieve your goal as long as you keep working”. But that all crumbles down when he gets that rare five leaf clover book thing. You see if you want to show the audience you can achieve your goal regardless of your ability or situation, you dont fucking give your main character special powers.

If you want to eee the true underdog mc, go read HeroAca or World Trigger. Even when Izuku does get a quirk, he still had to work for it and he’s still working on it. Osamu on the other hand actually has to train like crazy because in his world, experience matters in battles.

Juno was the most bearable character. He does need work, and he’s got that friendly rival friend trope. But he wasn’t frustrating to see.

Enjoyment: 5

I tried to continue reading this but it just bored the hell out of me. The arcs are just copy pasted with different villains. I think the weakest aspect of Black Clover are the villains.

Overall: 4

I'd rather read Naruto instead of reading this 2.0 I'm pretty sure the author took the chance of the end of Naruto. I know people are gonna get mad at me for calling it a Naruto rip off, but the similarity is too apparent to let it slide. Tabata Yuki could've took the story direction in a different way.

Honestly I think Yuki Tabata should team up with a writer who actually knows their shit. Even if the characters are tropey, they can be a good character as long as they are handled well and given development. I feel like his beautiful art went to waste with his writing skill.

Black Clover review
Yep. That's a 10.

First off, lemme start by saying that BC is not a 10 relative to every manga, it's a 10 relative to other shounen. It's one of the Best shounen mangas out there right now. It's a shame the Anime didn't get a good treatment.

I'll keep it short.
Story:
The story gets exponentially better as you read on. What may seem like a cliche story at the beginning develops into a great web of plot threads, all of which are interesting and connect to each other at the end of the arc. Everything is foreshadowed or connects to the world in some way. Black clover does a great job at exactly that. Establishing it's world, and then using that world to hint at new stuff.

Art:
The art is great. It's no Boichi, Kubo, or Ishida, but it's very pleasing and of course, Tabata is one horny mf, and I love him for that. Good fanservice, even better art overall.

Characters:
The characters are great. Like the story, they get better with time. Despite having a decently large cast, BC manages to keep each character relevant with it's squad system, which means you have a large feeling world while only having to focus on a small cast. Noelle is a real treat. I'm no SJW, but having such an amazing Female Character honestly makes it more fun to read. Every character is fun and lots have nice Arcs. Yuno is likely the only one that does lack some focus, but literally just now in the manga, we're sure to get more about him.

Enjoyment:
It's pretty easy to sum this up. Each chapter leaves me very excited, in a way no other manga has yet. Super enjoyable.

It's just an amazing Shounen. Between BC and MHA, BC wins ALL. THE. WAY. Please, ignore what you hear about it being cliche, and read as much as you can. Once you reach the point where stuff connects, and the story flourishes, it's impossible to put down.

Black Clover review

Black Clover review
Story 7/10

I went into this not expecting much more than a Naruto clone and for the first dozen chapters it really did seem that way. I found myself wondering where Black Clover would deviate from Naruto in various situations and I was happy to find some of the changes improved upon Naruto.

Eventually, the story steps out of the Naruto mold, adds a hint of Fairy Tail's guild structure and a fresh dynamic of nobility vs. commoners. By chapter 80 it was no longer mild enjoyment and curiosity it was a manga that stood on its own merit.

What I like about the story is the way that it reaches many of the battle shonen cliches and changes or avoids them in some way. There are still chliches abound (mostly in the main character) but it wasn't too annoying.

Art 8/10

My knowledge of art is limited so this part will be short. I give it an 8/10 because even reading on a tablet (I usually use a large computer screen) I didn't have to stare at pictures for a long time to identify what was going on. The characters each looked different than one another, which also helps. The different settings also felt unique from each-other and I especially like the haphazard guild hall.

Character 6/10

Asta is mostly predictable. He always perks up when his rival goads him. He always becomes ridiculously optimistic when something horrible happens. Most of the time when he's ridiculously optimistic somehow a miraculous result happens.

However, there are some things that I was pleasantly surprised about. He's not scared around women. He's good with kids. He also doesn't do pervy things like spying on women. Even when he's alone he's not hopeless. Also, he's blunt but in certain situations it's so true and so funny.

I had to look up Yuno's name because all I could think of was "Sasuke that's less of a jerk." However, though he resembles that character in Naruto, that less of a jerk part is really refreshing. He's aloof except with Asta and he values their friendship in his own way.

Other characters are slightly over the top but well developed. They all tend to fall hop step into nakama mode when Asta is around so that kind of sucks the individuality of them at times.

Enjoyment 8/10

What can I say, I like a good hero story. I came in with low expectations of looking for a new hero story and it developed into something unique that, though not at the top of my list of battle shonen its also not at the very bottom.

Overall 7/10

It's hard to escape it's more generic beginning and the tropes it encounters. It seems this manga is constantly encountering and attempting to dodge the predictable elements with mixed success. However, if you like some predictable elements like a hero with strong (some would say ridiculous) resolve in the face of adversity, if you'd like to live vicariously with someone who can solve most of their problems with a magic sword, give this manga a try and you might not be amazed but you can find enjoyment and won't be disappointed.

Oh, and I can't forget the part that drew me in. Women like him. It's kind of dumb to hope for romance in a battle shonen, but I like it when there are these possibilities.
