Yokujou Climax review
Desire Climax is a Shoujo, Smut, Romance, Drama manga that initially feels like all the typical smutty manga I have encountered but it ends up having a remarkably in-depth story. It’s a shame that the story becomes really messed up, later on.

Mio Omori is a high school girl who’s supporting her destitute family but her current job barely covers the basic living expenses. In need of some money, she receives the offer of being the maid for her extremely rich landlord however the son (Shoei Jinnai) happens to have an ulterior motive to her working there. In the beginning I was like “what the heck!” as the set-up just seemed rather cliché and unrealistic. However what initially felt like a simple ‘hates him but falls in love with him’ story actually developed into something more, with some dramatic plot twists and surprising developments.

Just like how the story develops into something remarkable, so do the characters. Unlike the usual dim-witted shoujo heroines, Mio is a caring, capable girl and sadly she can be a little easy to take advantage of; on the other hand Shoei (a.k.a. Prince Junnai) is still the typical two-faced guy that only shows his true self towards our heroine. However these two happen to have a troubled past together, which is what makes the romance between them fascinating. As for the supporting characters, they do a good job in actually supporting the story, by making their own mark and being the source of some surprises.

What also does a good job in supporting the story is the artwork for this manga, which can be described as exquisite. The individual characters look well-drawn, with nice defined features and you can tell that the mangaka put some effort into them, as well as the background environment.

Overall Desire Climax, started off as an interesting shoujo manga with some elements of comedy scattered throughout. Not to forget this is mostly a dramatic romance, with an unnecessary amount of randomly placed smutty moments. Though halfway through, matters become far too complicated, as the story goes off on tangent moving unto some ridiculous matters (e.g. love affairs). Knowing this, it’s really just about asking yourself; whether this is the type of shoujo manga you’re looking for.

*Be warned, there's A LOT of sexual content.*

Yokujou Climax review
I have been reading a lot of romance mangas recently, some good and some bad. I have began to notice tropes that get used time and time again. I imagine that someone wanting to read this will probably be in the same position as I was: familiar with the subject matter. Therefor I am not going to break down the entire romance genre or its pros and cons in story telling. I instead want to focus on what this manga does within that genre to make it stand out.

Firstly, the characters aren't too bad. A constant problem that a lot of romance mangas seem to have is that the female lead doesn't have a personality or life of her own. Our female lead here does need constant saving, but at the same time she is capable of independent thoughts. She does make decisions, which is nice to see. The male leads are pretty typical, with many of them being asses. However I felt that most of the characters still had enough of a back story to make the reader care about them. There were times when a back story would be
brought up only to be dropped again and that disappointed me because there were several times where character development could have happened.

Enough of the analyzation of characters. The plot is what matters here...and man is it dramatic! I loved it. I couldn't stop reading this manga and finished it in about 2 days (during finals week even). The handling of the story is what makes the characters shine and it really has a life to it. You can tell it was meant to entertain and keep you guessing.

This manga has a ton of romance tropes, but that is to be expected. The handling of said tropes is what makes this manga such a joy to read.

Yokujou Climax review
WELCOME TO ANOTHER ONE OF MY BIASED REVIEWS. FILLED WITH SPOILERS.

Let's just say that this is going to be an angry one. Starting off with the ratings...
Story - 8
Art - 7
Character - 6
Enjoyment - 6
Overall - 7

Summary of my thoughts on this manga...
Good point(s) - Sexy, REAL sexy scenes + Interesting plot
Bad point(s) - I feel that this is more of a personal thing, I just can't seem to sympathise with the characters. I feel empty. I don't feel any emotions(apart from natural hormonal reactions caused by the sexy scenes) throughout reading the manga. I'll go more into this later.

Story -
I don't have much to say about it, interesting plot twist, nice guys turning dark and evil over desires are always something that amuses me(except in Sasuke's case. But then I've hated him from the very beginning so that's a different story.)

The reason why I can't seem to feel for the characters is probably cause the amount of sexy scenes overpowers everything else so much that I can't seem to take the "everything else" seriously. Exaggerated example, 15pages is spent on the sexy scene while 2 pages are suppose to be the "emotional" part. What do you expect me to feel, man.

(SPOILER)Like when Mio found out that they were siblings, she started crying and whining and all and I'm like, "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA siblings..... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" cause by that point I'm already feeling pretty annoyed. Then Jinnai just made it worse, when he heard about it, he just started taking off his glasses and... Sexy scene starts. WHAT THE? Shouldn't this be an emotional moment??? Why???(SPOILER)

And I add that sexy scenes can start anytime, anywhere, anyhow, when the author feels like it, she'll put one in.

The one part I did really like about the story was when Hinata "paid back" what Jinnai did previously, using the authority he gained... Awesome

Art -
Delicious sexy scenes alert~~~ but apart from that, nothing special. That's all.

Character -
GOD. This is where it drove me half-mad. What use is having a great story if the characters fail to execute it and bring out the greatness in it? No use.

Okay then, let me ask you a few questions. What is so good about Mio? Apart from the fact that she has a godly figure of cause. 'Kay, she's a caring sister and well... Isn't it only normal that she acts that way? Sisters are suppose to be caring, all my female friends who have younger brothers are like that, they clean up after their younger brothers, tolerate their temper and stuff. It's natural. I don't have any personal experience since I only have a married older brother who's like 15 and a half years older than me.

(SPOILER)Moving on, what kind of CHILD takes off another CHILD's glasses and kisses the CHILD? Failed parenting? I'm talking logic here. If the parents I know sees their child doing such a thing, they would probably slap/spank them. Like seriously, it's improper, even teenagers doing that will get unpleasant stares from people, plus possible lectures/slaps from their parents.(SPOILER)

And bout Mio liking that Jinnai guy...

*YOU ONLY LIKE HIM CAUSE HE MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD*

When I completed the manga, I went over what I've just read in my head and I'm like... What the? That guy just kept molesting her and she fell in love not long after that saying that "the part where he touched me felt hot" whatnot blah blah blah... Seriously. She doesn't like you for your money, brother, she likes you for your body.

(SPOILER)Don't start giving me what childhood crap, she fell in love even before remembering them, the childhood stuff was just an interesting plot point ruined by horrible characters.(SPOILER)

Reinforcing something I read from the mangafox forum: When was the last time Mio called him by his given name? I almost thought his name is "Jinnai" til I went to check. SHOEI, FREAKIN' SHOEI, IT'S A GREAT NAME, JUST CALL HIM BY THAT, DON'T "PRINCE! PRINCE! PRINCE!" ME!

Now for some extra perverted stuff. Her breasts. POOR PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE BIG BREASTS, POOR PEOPLE SUFFER FROM LACK OF NUTRITION AND THUS ARE USUALLY REALLY THIN, BREASTS ARE MADE UP OF *FATS* WHICH IS A KIND OF NUTRITION. MIO, UNLESS YOU ARE FREAKIN' *PREGNANT* WHICH YOU OBVIOUSLY AREN'T, YOU HAVE NO REASON TO HAVE SUCH BIG BREASTS.

Enjoyment -
It's smut, ecchi, or even HENTAI whatever you put it, which female creature won't enjoy smut? The part I enjoyed the most?

(SPOILER)When Jinnai mistook Hina for Mio and started making love to him idiotically. SUCKER!(SPOILER)

But even with the sexy scenes as distraction, I can't seem to get the unhappiness with the characters and story out of my head so I was obviously bothered and can't enjoy them much.

Overall -
Read for the SEXY SCENES~~~

cheers.

Yokujou Climax review
This rating is based off this manga being part of the shojou drama/romance genre.
I might be a little harsh on my rating but I’m trying to be realistic here…Apart from the sex scenes, there is literally nothing interesting in this manga. It’s highly unrealistic, the characters drive you crazy and I can’t give it a good rating just based on the sex scenes. I mean if I wanted to read something like that I’d just move on to hentai.

The plot is the biggest disappointment. I’m not even sure where to start or how to describe it very well.
The story’s about Mio and Shoei ‘s [also known as the Prince, and yes they literally call him that] relationship. If u can really call it a relationship…it just them having sex basically. There’s this underlying plot line that has them as childhood friends but do to a kidnapping incident, Mio forgets everything about that time. I really wish they would have played on that more and gone down the thriller/mystery route; it could have been really awesome. But no, it gets pushed aside to display the Prince’s wealth and power over the local community. They do bring the kidnapping up towards the end but by that time you can figure it out for yourself…

There are bits of incest thrown in there as well. When I saw where it was going I totally wanted to drop it [sorry just not my thing.] But since I kept reading against my better judgement...my opinion on the whole thing is that the writer just wanted to toy around with the idea of a brother/sister relationship in a lot of aspects. It causes a lot of drama but in the end none of it really went anywhere.

I almost rated this a 5 since I didn’t really know how to feel about it, but if I was asked to recommend it I’d say no. There was little to no character development, scarce plot, and really if u wanna read something like this, go read hentai instead.

Story: 3 [poor]
Art: 7 [good]
Character: 4 [decent]
Enjoyment: 5 [OK]
Overall: 4 [decent]

Yokujou Climax review
This story line really hurt my hart. where should I start. The story line follows Omori Mio a seventeen year old high school girl as she faces obstacles that she didn't even know existed until they stood in her way. Omori Mio's family is poor, her father passed away, and her mother is being hospitalized. n the hopes of being the older sibling to her younger brother Hinata Omori, Mio takes on various part time jops. One day after finishing work on her way home a mysterious man approaches Mio and steals her first kiss. As if that wasn't enough the arrogant man throws money at her and declares that she now belongs to him. This was only the start.

I liked the manga some what because it had the element of surprise. At every corner there was a secret waiting to be discovered. One thing that I didn't enjoy was the personality of the main female character Mio. I hated he she reacted to every problem that she faced. In addition she was in denial about every thing, which only pissed me off even more. But for the most part I really enjoyed reading this Manga. It really showed that the road to happiness is a long and difficult road, and that you can;t be as naive as Mio and believe every thing that you are told and that every thing is not always as it seems. I kinda liked the way it ended and I also liked they realistically sloved the problem of all the drama around the Jinnai family. The only thing that I am wondering is why didnt the Omori family move to that island a long time ago. It was too much drama dealing with the whole Jinnai issues. Also I dont really like how the characters had split personalities to an extent. But let me stop babbling on. For the most part this manga was good.

Yokujou Climax review
I was torn giving the overall rating for this one 'coz really, it completely depends on the reader's interpretation of shoujo, as to whether they'll be left bemused with the overly maudlin storyline or whether they'll greedily gobble up the gorgeous artwork and the smut that accompanies it. I fall in the latter category.

I think the mangaka may have attempted to make this story a one shot right off the bat, so she introduced us to the duplicity of the hero, Shoei as a delinquent by night but straight laced prince by day character. Then she thought, hmm this has potential, and she went ahead to make a couple of volumes, so she gave the two leads a past, which is verrrry slowly dissected and not made completely clear right until the end of the seventh volume! That's good storytelling undoubtedly, but it also leaves the reader very confused during lots of plots. Then along the way, she thought, this childhood destined lovers bit is getting old, so she added every other bathetic element that springs to mind... incest, sister complexes, abandoned heirs, past love affairs, elopement... you name it! Of course, all of it is done thoroughly and with clear character development, so none of it seems abrupt while you're reading it, but when you think back to the beginning, you realize, whaaa... how the heck did it turn out like this?!

Let's start out with the leads, Mio and Shoie. Mio may have started out as the ingénue completely lacking in backbone and sexual restraint once aroused, but she learns from her mistakes and soon develops a sense of conviction and stands up for herself on numerous occasions against Shoei which is admirable, considering the very obvious pull he exerts on her. She is also a very responsible daughter, working her butt off to pay off the family's unending bills and ensuring her younger brother doesn't have to work and can concentrate on schoolwork. She loves her family very much and regularly visits her mother in the hospital and even agrees so work (and continue working) at Shoei's estate simply because her mother emotionally blackmails her into it both times! But relenting into such wishes never makes her appear weak willed, only devoted to her family. She is also resourceful and determined when the occasion calls for it, and takes any job she's handed very seriously, including disciplining Shoei... No time for hanky panky on the job!

Shoei, though a bit stereotypical in his behaving cruelly towards the heroine from time to time for no apparent fault of hers, is also portrayed as a complex mixture of tenacious lead, fiercely possessive lover and formidable foe whenever opposed or challenged. It is an arduous task for naive Mio to keep up with his constant mood swings where he shifts between attacking her from one moment to confessing his childhood love for her to heartlessly treating her like the maid she works as at the Jinnai house. He is also given to ignoring her ruthlessly and taking a nonchalant attitude with very often, especially after some particularly intense exchange between them. It makes for interesting plotlines, but you end up wanting to punch him in his beautiful face frequently! He is clearly sexually competent and never hesitates to prove just how much to Mio which takes her unawares more often than not.

Lots of supporting characters are introduced right at the start with each playing a significant role from start to finish, which again makes you wonder whether the convoluted storyline was originally intended or the characters just happened to weasel their way around to it. You can never completely peg down a character to play the good guy or the villain, so it's always unpredictable and surprising, the twists they become part of.

There is no unnecessary weeping from the heroine's side, though there is relevant internal monologue. But that serves to strengthen the somewhat tempestuous relationships she develops with various characters. Shoei lives up to his carelessly authoritative role with dry quips now and then interspersed with thinly veiled commands which Mio gives into despite herself. Some of the dialogue is unexpectedly racy and humorous at the same time, while avoids being completely clichéd due to timely appearance of certain characters during intimate scenes. There is no outright comedy, but it's made up for by the rib tickling expressions and poses.

The artwork is deliciously detailed and evidently painstaking, though clean. There's none of the chibi crap which can ruin romance settings so often, but there are exaggerated facials which lend a scene levity. The smut was exciting at most places, though its appearance can generally be well predicted by experienced shoujo readers. The romance builds up steadily, and it's not just a girl falling in lust with an asinine dominating character and confusing it with love after considerable abuse has been inflicted on her.

Overall Desire Climax isn't a story you'll remember the next day, but it's one with high rereadability potential none the less, because it takes the reader on a whirlwind journey just when you think you've settled into a nice groove with the plot. While it's clearly intended for shoujo and drama readers, none of it makes you despise a character or thumb your nose at the storyline, so it's not something you'll tire of midway and abandon.
