Boku no Hero Academia review
Out of 100 Nobles watching...
95 were impressed!
5 thought some action panels got a little hard to read.

Short Notes: It's great, it is both similar AND different enough from the anime to be a very enjoyable experience viewing both. Also, we get a new chapter almost every week and that is just insane.

Many people love the Boku no Hero anime adaptation, but often times an anime adaptation can separate itself greatly from its source material for better or for worse. That is not the case here and laying it all out on the table right now. Hero Aca is amazing and may be the best Shonen manga written to date.

Boku no Hero Academia presents the reader with a world where the supernatural is natural. It takes place in a near future society where the majority of the population of earth has at least some sort of minor superpower called a "quirk". The story follows Midoriya Izuku a young boy who was born without a quirk and his path to becoming the "greatest hero ever" (work in progress). The plot of the story itself is very by the book Shonen stuff but the author Horikoshi Kohei takes all of your typical tropes and either flips them around or presents them so excellently that it comes into its own without feeling played out.

The art design of the manga is very good with amazing detail paid to backgrounds, character designs, and expressions (especially in the hands and face). The only points of criticism I really have for the manga are that some of the action sequences in the later chapters with physically large or complicated foes are a bit hard to "read" or see what EXACTLY is going on or who is punching who. That said the key panels are there and when someone gets punched in the face or cries in despair it has it's own feeling of realism despite very obviously being a stylized manga.

The character design and backstories are what bring this manga into the upper crust. Every major and minor character has a backstory, hopes dreams, and aspirations. It's almost scary thinking that most of the 10/10 cute girls in the show were originally male character only for Kohei to change them to balance out gender dynamics. It's for this reason that the female and side characters are so strong and well made. Nothing physical such as gender has anything to do with a characters overarching goals or capabilities.

Overall I think Boku no Hero is a reflection of what most great manga I have read have taught me. If it is made as a labor of love then it will probably be good. Horikoshi Kohei started out Boku no Hero with the original intention to simply write a manga that they themselves could enjoy. The amount of world building and detail are truly reflected in the love he has put into his work.

Boku no Hero Academia review
First, MHA is an overall decent series that I would recommend to anyone asking for suggestions. Second, I'll group the material based on the season it was covered for (personal) clarity.

The main cast members are memorable, enjoyable, and fun to read about fan comics of their antics and interactions. Deku is a refreshing change in the stereotypical shonen protagonist with his greater maturity and intelligence; at the same time, his lack of goofiness also makes Deku less likable and makes me appreciate the stereotype (ex. Luffy and younger Naruto). For the villains, they're mediocre and disappointing--especially Shigaraki, Deku's rival.

I enjoyed the material in seasons 1 & 2 and would give it an 8, BUT my disappointment with the season 3 material until the present brings down my rating. The Forest Training Camp Arc seemed to drop the ball: the villains attack causing the students to rise to the occasion, but the their' victory feels unjustified and again paints the League of Villains as incompetent and too poorly written to be a daunting major, long-term antagonists. The Provisional Hero License Exam Arc picks the ball up somewhat as do a few major moments, BUT the series never recovers. The Shie Hassaikai Arc was hyped up by all the manga readers, so I expected it to be just that; it...did not live up my to expectations.

Honestly, the story and villain writing hurt my enjoyment for this series. It didn't really hit me until Horikoshi said in an interview with Eiichiro Oda that he would like My Hero Academia to surpass One Piece. The disparity between the two's quality just seemed so obvious then that that was the end of any enjoyment I could have and the new arc doesn't seem worth reading right now. I'm dropping it, for now, and just ignoring the series for a while (I did this with One Piece a year ago and I'm able to enjoy it again, so here's hope that it works).

If you can enjoy this series, then keep reading it and PLEASE ignore the fandom/make your own viewpoints. Don't let false expectations ruin this series for you.

Boku no Hero Academia review
Wow, this series is honestly a masterpiece shounen so far.
Right now, I'm up to date in this manga (Chapter 152).
Honestly, the characters are intrigueing, and so is the writing.
The author shows different social commentaries during the series, look up PendanticRomantic, he's a youtuber that clearly demonstrates these commentaries that the author is trying to show in his manga.

Don't get me started on the art though, it's weird mix of simplicity and detail is honestly fucking awesome. You can feel the energy and emotion in Horikoshi's drawings. Expressions EXTREMELY expressive. Where Horikoshi's drawings really shine are his color spreads and volume covers. They all look badass, with some awesome color use; which hypes the fuck out of the reader.

Characters as I said before are intrigueing, we have quite a major cast of characters here. All with extremely interesting designs, probably the most original I've ever seen. Characthers' backstories in My Hero Academia are phemonally written too, we get this feel of sympathy for characters who come off a douchbags at first but have a good reason to be one.

The enjoyment I had when reading this manga is the highest I can give; a 10. Sure, there were some moments when I was uninterested due to the release schedule of mangas, turning the viewer disinterested after a while (at least for me). But in a snap of a finger, you'll be hooked to it again, trust me.

Overall I give this series a 9 out of 10, a solid work of shonen art, and a definite must read, especially of people who love to read Shounen!
Just at least give this manga a try, even if I didn't persuade you to read it already.

Boku no Hero Academia review
So I went ahead and read the reviews on My Hero Academia, and let me say that most of it is completely bull crap. People think they can write good stories when they wouldn't even be able to pull off a decently written 200 word short story.

Let me tell you what I think about My Hero Academia in a concise manner.

Story - 7

You have to understand what My Hero Academia is about. It's about the characters and nothing much else. The story's setting is fairly simple. Individual unique powers called "quirks" have appeared in society and in the present day 80% of the population has quirks. A boy named Izuku Midoriya has always dreamed of becoming a great hero like his idol, All Might. One twist, he's "quirkless". But one day while the number one hero, All Might himself is in town, these two meet and All Might passes down his quirk to Midoriya. Midoriya joins a the top Hero school called U.A. and the story progresses with Midoriya trying to master his new inherited power.

Simple enough to understand right? That's right, it's supposed to be simple. It's a shounen manga, what do you expect? Overall, the basic plot points of the story are fairly simple, it's battle after battle and villain after villain. But it all conjoins to a much bigger scheme which is evident enough for anyone who has brains to realize that this manga is just extremely slowly paced. In fact, it's so slowly paced that if one were to concise My Hero Academia into a novel adaptation, you'd probably get less than 150,000 words and that too well detailed.

Art - 9

The art is absolutely amazing in My Hero Academia, it's cleanly drawn and it's fascinating to just study the panels. They feel as if they're alive and moving. The art is incredibly expressive as well and it's authentic and genuine.

Character - 9

The characters are what make this story what it is. This story provides more depth to its characters than other manga. You know why each of the main characters want to be a hero and you also get little peeks at the other characters in the series. This is where the strength of the series lies. Honestly, a lot more could've happened in the story if so much effort wasn't given to develop the characters. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that the mangaka chose to "show" the story. Not tell it, something which a manga like Attack on Titan does. The characters develop through actions and every moment is used to dig depth into each and every character. Their interactions are fascinating to read and it's just good writing.

Enjoyment - 9

It's just a great read that's it. Incredibly enjoyable.

Overall - 8

I prefer anime over manga, so I don't rate manga too high. Also because I'm a book lover. But My Hero Academia is a gem, it's a great read and all the characters are incredible. The story is fairly basic and nothing complicated happens and I don't have much else to say about it except that it can get pretty dark and intense.

Boku no Hero Academia review
Okay, so this story starts off as a story about heroes and villains-simple right? At first glance, this is just a fun "heroes beat the villains and save the day" type of story. And honestly? That's all the story is until you get the villain arc in the manga, where you REALLY start to see what the story is actually about. Let me preface by saying that at the time I'm writing this review, I am currently awaiting chapter 197 to come out, where a VERY big arc just ended and stakes are very high, and the story is about to make its biggest turning point so far.

There is a whole arc dedicated to the League of Villains and their leader, Tomura Shigaraki. This is a ballsy move, at least for most stories, but this story is different. This arc (which isn't going to be animated until season 5) is where the story takes a darker, more somber twist, leaving behind that "heroes vs. villains" style. I'm not going to spoil it of course, so let me just cut to the chase of the entire story premise. Firstly, this story is about inequality and suffering. You see the inequality in the hero society from the very first chapter, but it isn't viewed as such until much later in the story. Secondly, this story is about ABUSE. It is about abusers and abuse victims. You get the first taste of this underlying tone in the first section of the story during the sports festival arc with Shoto Todoroki and his backstory involving his abusive father, which has been out for a long time so this little tidbit isn't a spoiler. As well as the Overhaul arc where they save Eri (this has also been out for some time so it should not spoil anything). Shoto and Eri are not the only abuse victims we see in this story, I'll just leave it at that, for those who don't read the manga and are awaiting for it all to be animated. Thirdly, and most importantly, this story is about SAVING and REDEMPTION. It is NOT about heroes beating villains (well, some of it is but that's just side action for the story). If you only watch the anime then you have not gotten to see this story take this turn yet, which is why I highly recommend reading the manga. This story paints itself as a hero tale, and it is. It's about Deku becoming the greatest hero who ever lived, and at first you're like "well yeah, he's being trained by All Might and he's gonna become number one." However, there is so much more to that phrase "greatest hero who ever lived". The title "hero" is being challenged constantly in this story, especially where the story is at right now in the manga. I cannot say I agree with the majority of the reviews I see on this website, so I decided to post one myself, even though I truly only rarely visit this website. So the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover" REALLY applies to this series. It looks like an optimistic hero series, and it IS. It is optimistic and wholesome, in so many ways. I truly mean all those 10/10 ratings I gave this story.

Boku no Hero Academia review
This series is definitely an up and coming star if not one already. Although it starts as a typical shounen, it very early establishes itself as something different although the same with the hero dynamic.

Story-9

The story does start out as very generic but after the first main arc it starts to take itself in a different direction by challenging the ideal of a hero. It questions what it means to be a hero and how in a society where being a hero is a profession, it has warped the "hero" from that of selflessness, pure heroism into something people do for the money, fame and glory. When the main villains are introduced and the story really begins to develop itself the story begins to really become something. In the latest chapters it really has gone from being really lighthearted in the beginning to becoming a bit darker and cynical (sorta like Hunter x Hunter) and the story telling just gets so much better and unique.

Art-10

Art is definitely one of its strong points as it puts a very nice cartoony dynamic on the characters which just helps to enforce the "hero" dynamic it has going. The art is nice, clean and easy to follow which helps when reading manga's with a lot of chapters. Overall the art really fits this manga perfectly.

Characters-10

The characters is definitely the strongest thing going for the manga now. They are all unique, both personality and design wise and makes you like or hate them for completely different reasons. Especially when it comes to your main character Izuku Midoriya. He is one of the most relatable characters and he is certainly a new type of shounen MC whereas instead of all the other shounen MC's iZUKU Izuku isn't a knucklehead who just rush into battle without thinking or constantly devoting himself to training. He spends his time taking notes on all the heroes he finds interesting and using his brain to formulate plans during battles to keep himself alive since his biggest handicap is actually his own power. He gets a lot of development in the story where he starts off as a weak, whiny kid who constantly gets bullied because of how it is more uncommon to NOT have a power than it is to have one. he then starts transforming into an admirable hero with strong ideals and a brain that helps him get through his struggles as he fights the villains.

Enjoyment- 10

This manga is very enjoyable, when i began reading this I found myself ploughing through chapters and only stopping because I was forced to wait a week for the next chapter.

Overall-9

The only reason I'm not giving this a 10 is because the story is still gaining pace but this will definitely be a 10 in the future. The story starts off mediocre and starts gaining steam and just keeps getting better and better.

So in conclusion, if you haven't read this manga yet, do yourself a favour and GO READ IT! You are missing out on probably one of the best manga's of the decade!

Boku no Hero Academia review
Boku no Hero Academia, a Shounen Jump manga for the "new generation" of mangas that is regarded as a successor to Naruto by many, is to me, still looks like it hasn't hatched from its egg. What I mean to say is that this manga has an incredible potential, but always backs out when it's trying to break the barrier from a good manga to a great manga.

From the summary you probably would've guessed that this is your typical Shounen action manga. Optimistic MC is always neglected by everyone, but starts changing the minds of people around him through his sheer will (and with the help of a certain someone). And as expected it goes by the typical route where his determination inspires the people around him for the better, and that can keep you invested in the manga for only so long.

But what really caught my attention where the villains. In a world where a hero association with superhumans exist with a sole purpose of defending the citizens, it's only natural that a community of villains will exist. But rather than doing typical villain stuff, their purpose is still somewhat of a mystery. The part that makes them interesting is that they bring a whole new dynamic into the manga. They challenge the very ideals of those heroes, and gives the readers a sense of what drives them to do what they do. A good example of this is the anti hero known as Stain. The moment they appear they show a real sense of risk, turning the manga towards a darker, yet interesting road.

But here's my complaint. It never really goes over the tipping point. Just when you think they're gonna do something to really impact the hero society, they just back down. It feels like a cop out, when in fact if the author decided to take the risk it would elevate the manga to a higher level.

While I'm on the subject, I'd also like to talk about how the heroes use their powers. A big problem for me was that although this manga focuses heavily on the usage of super powers it never goes about it creatively. Sure every arc the heroes learn a new move or something, but there is an example where during a fight the main character was in a situation where nothing he learned could be used to make it out. But rather than losing the battle, or coming up with a new way to use his powers, the author decides to use a deus ex machina, which is one of the things I despise most about any stories.

Despite these flaws, I've been reading it avidly, hoping that at some point the author decides to take the risk and make use of its great potential to make it become something big. But until then it's nothing more than a fun read for anyone interested in mainstream action shounen.

Boku no Hero Academia review
This has become one of the most popular 6/10 manga's I've read, before dismissing this review of the manga I will tell my reasoning. Please read this view in its entirety because the value of a series can't be explained merely by a figure.

This is apart of the rising star of jump this and the promised neverland basically taking naruto place, combining elements of Naruto and one piece seamlessly while making some unique. I've been reading this series from day 1 since it's been releasing in Japan and it was fun however as time got passed and absurdly overhyped this manga has become a lot of the problems starts to get noticed.

Story -5.5

The story for a lot of shounen series is really never the point its the journey itself that's the real point. Like for Jojo part 3, the plot is whatever because we know the outcome like Naruto, however, "It's the Journey, not the Destination that counts" ( credit Reddit post).

The General plot, for the most part, is that the protagonist Deku gets introduced to something, works harder, affect the characters around him, has a moral message then beats enemy or just do whatever he can to be a hero. Also each arc they always 1 or 2 side characters that get proper character development so by the end of the series in we know the classroom characters really well it's not doing a naruto problem where too many characters to keep up. Its slowly developing the entire classroom so everyone has something to do.

A lot of the best chapters in the series really nothing to do with the "plot" its really the interaction, the main characters is not really interesting or complex he's actually pretty meh however how he interacts with his environment is probably the best element because we are seeing the world within his limited perspective.

Anyways the plot is serviceable to deliver some memorable moments.

Character Designs - 9

the best element of this series is by far the character designs they are all striking as heroes should be, so know how I said a side character starts development after 1 arc that's apart of the classroom. This works so well because of character designs look unique and different that author can suddenly start developing the classroom characters. Its just weird how great the character designs are for both villains and heroes but how bland the environment and the setting of the series.

How deku clothes each arc and just looks awesome as it progresses his clothes really represent his development as a character, showing visually representation of his progress.

Setting - 3

This probably the worst thing of the series the setting as its set in modern day city life of Japan but you have characters with cool designs but you have these bland environments. Instead of exploring cool locations, to contrast with the cool character designs and how the world would most likely operate completely different due to the high percentage of people with superpowers. You think the economy and setting would change in a fantasy way like with one piece. However, the only thing we explore is the school area, a Colosseum, Forest.....

To limit your world just modern city of Japan is boring especially with a premise that this manga has, instead of having other countries involved like Italy, Germany, USA, Australia, England, India ...... Which limits the potential of the world as all the best superheroes are only in Japan. I wouldn't really care that much if the city they live in felt lived in, but it isn't. It feels more isolated than anything else, it doesn't feel tangible. Like one piece has its own economy, lived in worlds, politics you feel connected, for me, this manga just screams wasted potential.

Art and composition - 8.5

the best thing about this manga is the art and composition of an image, even though the writing is weak at times the how the mangaka frames his drawings conveys so much raw emotion that's probably why its so beloved when Deku achieve something you feel that from his raw emotions how he expresses himself, this not due to the art itself but how its framed to make a lot memorable moments, when the anime recreates does impactful moments they don't really stray from the storyboard of the manga as the author did a great job with a lot of those key moments.

Also, Deku shoes are awesome but this is why even when the logic makes no sense at times but the art showcases a pure emotion so your still emotional invested.

Writing - 6 and at times it becomes like 7

A lot of the writing is fairly component nothing more than that, i explained my issues with the setting and how it's a lot of wasted potentials that was apparently due to the writing of the characters. The writing isn't bad but just serviceable, at key moments it actually becomes really good mainly with Deku interaction with his main rival Bakugou. Even though the main protagonist is okay bakugou is so fun to read how he deals with the situation and subverts the common tropes in Shounen.

However what the writing does well is the continuation of events, that each arc is important for something, characters don't need to die but still have a sense of losing while winning at the same time. the character development with Deku is nice to see, how his personality changes subtly also the personality of the side characters are fun.

Overall - 6

I use to rate this 8/10 however as the arcs have been progressing the writing has become weaker, a lot of this manga is emotion over logic, is this bad no however it gets stales over a long time. I starting to get tired of the same pattern after 192 chapters.

An exchange program or just a different environment would be nice to see tbh anyways if u want to read this manga I'll be honest just watch the anime because it has an incredible English dub and the choice of colour in a superhero manga is important, after you Up-to-date with the anime I recommend the manga however not being really seriously involved with it but for time pass plus this manga introduced a whole new set of fans to start read manga and watch anime so I'm grateful for the sheer impact its made also the author is a passionate dude who deserves a level of respect.

Boku no Hero Academia review
His body suddenly move on its own. He can't help it. When he sees the eyes of people in need, He will come and rescue you.

Midoriya has this qualities. As the story would progress, we will know the true qualities of a hero, as gallantly shown by the main character.

He has the character of a hero. the Values, the moral code but unfortunately, lacks the power to become one in a world where super abilities becomes so common that it be part, probably, in a birth certificate.

With so many super powers, he had no chance.

The manga would show us that the sacrifice and heart and mind is all that is needed to be a hero. Midoriya would be in tight spots, almost constantly, enough to make it predictable that when he declares or resolves himself to do this thing that he wanted, expect it that his going to fail, in some way, but the author would look for a detour to make it seem a success. 'cause you know, He is has this hero character but is weak, yet tend to win, somehow, someway.

In this adventure, after he be helped by the no1 super hero in this world, he intended to enroll to the no.1 super hero academy, thus the title. He meets a lot of kids there, many with great potential. Many with faults and problems in their own.

It's not all about saving characters, and persons physically, but also emotionally. The hero is nosey, and failing to dissapoint, Midoriya is as sharp as any dog can be, the nosiest, or one of.

Is there love in here, a speck of romance? I think not or perhaps I fail to notice or maybe it hasn't come, but may yet to.

The stretch and expressions of faces and body that is appropriate to the feel of the scene is a talent with the author. It enhanced the drama even more, if there is one. And if its one of those moments where the hero comes to the rescue, the relief is felt multiple times, but perhaps its just a feel of one backing up your friend since currently, they all have super powers, and little situation provides the scene for saving.

'Tis about Bad and Good. As of yet, I haven't recalled any gray areas, where there is a dillemma. To sacrifice this to save that, more or less. In reality, life isn't simple, and a lot in it has gray areas. It would add a complicated feeling in the manga if it were added. I don't know if it'd end up good for the manga, I guess it depends on how good the author is, and so far, he has talent in his subject.

It is fun. If you're looking for romance, ya ain't goi'n to find it here. If ya expect'n neked scenes, or smooch'n, ya be dissapointed. But if it be pure action, and hard work come to fruit'n, then ya be at the right place, me man or woman!

burp!

Boku no Hero Academia review
I wasn't planning to review, but IMO, a lot of the reviews here are super unfair. Look: if you want cerebral, subversive manga that you have to chew on and ponder, this manga isn't for you. This isn't an intellectual manga like Oyasumi Punpun or Kokou no Hito and it has never pretended to be--if that's what you want, you're looking for josei, not shounen.

Boku no Hero Academia is pure, concentrated, unpretentious, hot-blooded shounen. It clearly builds off of traditional Shounen Jump archetypes, tropes, plotlines, etc., and my issue is: What's wrong with that? People have given BNHA a lot of grief for how heavily it resembles Naruto, but are we forgetting that Kishimoto relied heavily on Dragon Ball's plotline? And that Dragon Ball was based on the Chinese literary classic, "Journey to the West"? It's just so silly to pretend mangakas don't regularly draw inspiration from each other's work. The reason they're drawing inspiration from those works is because they're *good* and we want more of it. I've missed this type of shounen for years and was starting to think I'd never find any new shounen that was actually fun, but BNHA fills that gaping shounen void in my heart perfectly.

This is an excellent addition to the Shounen Jump canon; it can absolutely stand with series like Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, etc. It's fun, it's fast, it's got plenty that makes it stand out as unique, and it's excellently illustrated to boot. I loved Naruto as a kid and have seen the entire series at least 6 times, so I can identify every piece Horikoshi has borrowed from Kishimoto, and rather than reacting like a pretentious asshat, I appreciate it. It's a nod to a great series that brought joy to people all over the world. I'm ecstatic that someone finally picked up the torch and is putting out more stuff like this. Heck, give me 10 Horikoshi's.

If you're an obnoxious, counterculture clown who can't enjoy anything at face value, you probably won't like this series. If you actually, ya know, *enjoy* shounen and don't dislike things just because they're popular, you should give it a shot. Is BNHA perfect? No. Is it fresh and new? No. Is it fun, pump-your-fists, what'll-happen-next shounen? You betcha.

Boku no Hero Academia review

Boku no Hero Academia review
My Hero Academia (or Boku no Hero Academia as some people call it) is easily one of the most popular manga of the 2010's out there.
But why is it so popular? What makes people like it so much compared to other battle shounen? I'll give my thoughts and feelings here to try to answer this question.

Story - 6
The story of My Hero is a fairly simple one: About how a young boy who got bullied for not having a power required to become one gets one and how he becomes the best hero of all time.
From the get go, you'd think this would make a good underdog series... But it's not: The main character is by no means weak in any form, and he befriends people quite easily, making his underdog status moot, despite it being very pronounced in the first 3 or so chapters.
Then there's the fact that he's already one of the best heroes out there, due to his incredibly heroic mindset... making his quest to become the best hero feel half-hearted.
It then goes on about the society he lives in, which is much more interessting than the main character himself: As the manga goes on, more and more people who succeed and fail based on how a world with superhero powers work get shown.

Characters - 7
They all have likable designs and likable personalities, and they have alot of good chemistry together, especially the main hero class the hero is in... But their actual depth and reason for being there in the plot are not as good as that.
Even after 6 years of running weekly there are still a ton of characters who are just there and not fleshed out... despite being part of the main ensamble the hero finds himself in.
And the characters that are good in my eyes (barring villains) are under utilised and barely get any screentime, while Todoroki, a main character, gets alot despite his entire personality being daddy issues.
In contrast, the villains fair much better in retrospect, as they all have great backstories relating to how hero society treated them, as said earlier.
There is a reason my favorite arc is the one where the main villain's backstory gets shown.
Overall, they are likable and easily recognisable, but only the villains are what i can call ''good characters''

Art - 6
The art in and of itself is very, very good: The characters are unique and recognisable, The backgrounds are well drawn...
But the fight scenes.
They are just hard to follow at times.
When you make a battle series and your audience has a hard time following what's going on in the battles, you screwed up somewhere.

Enjoyment - 6
My Hero Academia is, to me, a perfectly fine battle shounen that could be so much better than it is.
The hero could have been one to see how screwed the current society is (and maybe he will later, but it's been 280 chapters by now...), the underutilised characters could do alot more, but we're stuck with the bland hero, underdeveloped screaming kid and the one with daddy issues manga.
When the manga is about other things than them, like the villains, I tend to find it alot more enjoyable.

Overall, I think I can see why it got so popular:
-It's a manga about superheroes made after the MCU was made
- The characters are recognisable and very likable
- The superpower system just screams ''make your own OC!''
Unfortunately, none of these things are things that make me instantly like things.

Boku no Hero Academia review
It's the rising star of Jump, the so called "next Naruto/One Piece." Yes, it's of the mold of the two. Yes, you can see the similarities in holistic structure, but what is it that makes Boku no Hero Academia a compelling read for shounen fans looking for something to pass the time?

Art- 10
The style is typically cartoony, but this is only because of the whole superpower premise. Sure, it isn't realistic, but if you look at the art in context, it is exceptionally well done. Horikoshi has certainly developed his own style that we could distinguish after reading Boku no Hero Academia for a few chapters. The art is detailed all around: the backgrounds, character designs, facial expressions; you name it. To top it all off, it's consistent, and really, that's all we could ask for isn't it?
(Note to fellow readers: I think Midoriya freak out faces and Bakugou psycho faces are insanely good)

Character- 9
There are only so many characters: Izuku (main character), Bakugou (MC main rival), Todoroki (MC rival 2/upcoming close friend), Uraraka (heroine), All Might (the hero Izuku looks up to), and plenty more who are nameable, but the list would be too long.
The fact of the matter is that they are nameable. Readers can distinguish between these characters not only because of their different physical designs but their personalities as well. The characters who seem as though they'll be relevant in the future are being developed with their own pasts. And these character layouts are just so different from most shounen manga we've seen in the past 30 years or so.
For example: Izuku and Bakugou. (Minor spoilers ahead) Midoriya isn't your typical main shounen in the sense that he's an idiot who loves to eat and such, but he thinks for himself. He writes notes on people he think might be rivals with as material he could possibly get on them. He analyzes everything down to a science, fanboys about them, and anticipates how anyone could fight each other due to their specific circumstances. He overthinks, sure, but he does it beautifully and relatably that I think most of us would understand.
Then we have Bakugou, the rival. He is so mean: bullies people around him, taunts them, and destroys their souls. Yet, at the same time, we can see another layer under him that wants to be a hero the same way Midoriya does, just coming to conclusions in a different manner than Izuku. He also analyzes, albeit to a much lesser degree; he lets the powers he's used to do the other half of the work for him.
The characters really express Horikoshi's respect for Togashi: thinkers who manage to be realistic but at the same time captures our attention by being over the top at the right times, motivating us to be the best we can be. Really, characters are a strong suit here.

Enjoyment- 10
I love reading this each week. I look forward to the art, the character development (there's always some), and hope for the day that the story takes a turn and just skyrockets and makes this manga THE big thing. It's just a good part of my day when I read it.

Overall- 9
Some shounen veterans might say this number is too high, but I'm giving this manga a 9 due to ALL factors, especially my investment in it. Although at the moment it's an 8, I think it will become a 9 because of the direction Horikoshi is taking it each week. It has strong development, consistent art, and good writing overall. If you like shounen, you will definitely enjoy reading this: it has all of the normal stuff in blood, tears, and determination, but readers of all will definitely enjoy reading this for the character development if nothing else.
