Onanie Master Kurosawa review
Funny story about this, I was just scrolling through twitter and I randomly came across this manga and I decided, hey, this looks interesting and here I am with a new favorite manga.

Anyway, on to the review.

Story: 10/10

Without a doubt the story is fantastic. It took what appeared to be a pretty perverted premise, and turned it into actually something amazing, which could easily have gone the other way around. Whether we like it or not, stuff like masturbation is a legitimate part of any adolescent boy's childhood, and it fits perfectly for a coming of age story like this, however uncomfortable the topic may be to some. Like I said, it's easy to turn this into some sort of perverted, ecchi mess, but in reality it used that dirty, dirty act to fuel the story of a boy who's essentially reached his lowest, due to acting on his sense of justice the only way a horny boy like him could.

The twists in the story aren't exactly the most shocking or unpredictable, but the way they are set up and written led me to feel it when it actually happened. I actually felt the exact same as our main character, the pain, the joy, the hope, everything, all within a short 31 chapters, might I add.

Each and every event is set up and arranged so that when certain character developments happen, it works, and it never comes out of the blue( I will expound on this in the characters portion). Also, that ending went exactly as i'd hoped it gone. I'm very satisfied with the outcome because of how it represents our MC's growth.

All in all, this story could've easily been trash, but it managed to become something amazing.

Art: 8/10

The art style is very good. I don't have much complaints since I'm not good at judging this stuff aside from how it compliments the story and characters, and in that field, it does it very well.

The artwork isn't intense and hyper detailed like one you'd see out of an action manga, but rather it's simple, and when needed to, it became dark and disturbing. Reminds me of my previous favorite manga Welcome to the NHK. Both are pretty grim in its tone, but it doesn't feel like it's trying to do that effect. I'm not gonna say any more since this really isnt my forte at critiques, but from my own limited understanding of how artists do the art for a comic, I'd say it's very well done.

Character: 10/10

The characters in this story are great. Not every single character is particularly deep, but they not only serve their purpose well in the story, but they also come across as likeable and interesting. Sugawa, Takigawa and Nagaoka are perfect examples of this. They do have their own fair share of character growth, ones that are earned and make sense in the story, and they are dedicated enough time so that the reader would understand their feelings, but the story also knows that they aren't the main focus of the story. Takigawa's backstory is not meant to be shown to give her more depth, but it's to serve as a way to understand events surrounding her that lead to the development of our main character Kurosawa.

In fact, despite what the last few chapters may make you think, Kitahara is not a protagonist either, she fits similar to Takigawa, whose own story(although in Kitahara's case it wasn't a backstory), served as a catalyst for Kurosawa's development. They not only functioned to add a level of depth to her character, but they also, actually, they mainly served as drive for our MC's development.

That said, the main character himself, Kurosawa Kakeru, is an amazing protagonist. Admittedly, he reminds me a lot about myself(minus his weird fetish). The struggles he goes through throughout the series are ones that relate to me, and I guess subtracting his choice to be alone, I even relate to his slight superiority complex. Many of his situations are just more extreme versions of ones I've found myself in. What I mean is that the situations he finds himself are ones that if you asked yourself what you would do, and took those questions and applied them to a situation in your ow life, chances are it'd still apply. Honestly I love how they go straight to the point with his character. Instead of constantly giving us a back and forth about his feelings and decisions, they make it a point to make sure that we always see some sort of important event that moves the story forward, and it is because of that that Kurosawa's problems never feel tiring, which is a complaint I have with even some of my favorite manga. Even ones I consider near masterpieces suffer from dragging out the issues these characters face for a bit too long, and it damages my investment in them. All in all, I found a character who I can strongly relate to and I find myself always enjoying his development, and watching him learn life lessons and actually applying them put a smile on my face.

Enjoyment: 10/10

My enjoyment of this manga exceeded far beyond my expectations. I was invested in every chapter, none were ever boring, and everything felt necessary. I loved it, and I will reread it again at some point.

Overall: 10/10

Overall, with a strong main character and supporting cast, a perfectly paced story, and a lot of themes and lessons that resonate with me, Onanie Master Kurosawa has become, as of this moment, and likely months or even years to come, my favorite manga.

Onanie Master Kurosawa review
Kakeru Kurosawa is another puberty hit teenager. He is quiet, introverted who finds his solace fantasizing about the school's idols and masturbating to them in an abandoned girl’s toilet. The synopsis looks a more of an erotic manga but its too early to jump the gun. The primary focus of manga is very ethical and it likes to discuss what’s the wrong deed and how one must overcome it. And the consequences it can lead to one’s life.

Onanie Master Kurosawa starts off as a parody to Death Note but later on it departs itself and the story is left with more mature, dark and psychological content. It does not start off with a bang instead it develops slowly following a serious path. Early chapters consists more of his so called 'Daily Activities'. Even though his fantasies are shown in a sexually explicit manner but not in a fan service aspect instead it wants to portray the mentality of protagonist and how it’s varying with time.

The Story is written to savour the taste of mature audience. It picks pretty slowly but develops nicely and gets pretty unpredictable. The inner monologues have done the nice job describing the emotions very well. The protagonist goes through a rollercoaster of emotions and those are equally well portrayed and you can completely feel those moments. The art brilliantly portrays his egoistic nature which along with his monologues and nasty smirks make his character feel realistic.

While the character of Kurosawa was well developed, other characters were not met with similar fate. Even though manga is mere 4 volume (comprising 31 chapters) such development was not expected. The cast mainly is not too large but each character have their rich and unique personality traits.

Drawings are average and are not too clean. But characters still look good especially Kurosawa but the similar cannot be said about the background. Even though still artwork manages to completely depict the situations perfectly.

Manga is nicely done to make it relatable to real life. It very genuinely displays the atmosphere of middle school. While the manga is intense but it still manages to reach a satisfying final conclusion.

Onanie Master Kurosawa review
Despite what you might would expect when reading the title and a summary of the plot this is not a comedy manga and not a ecchi or hentai manga.

Chapter 1-19 is like the beginning of death note.
Kurusawa is similar to light with the exceptions that he is not asexuel and that he is not popular by the girls.
Kursusawa inflicts revenge on bullys.
It sounds like a childish version of death note but i can tell you despite the middleschool setting its way more mature.
But there is no antagonist who trys to stop him like L in death note.

Chapter 20-31 is a coming of age story, the antisocial kurasawa regrets his doings and becomes more social and so on.

I liked the first part more, the end was a bit too positive and i still dont understand that he doesnt got punished by the school or the parents of his victims for cumming on there stuff.
I think at the school i was on people would get kicked out for doing something like this

i also dont think its realistic that his whole class just becomes so friendly towards him after all he has done.

What i really liked is the dealing with the Bullying-Theme.
Its not simply onesided with poor victims and bad bullys.
Kurasawa and his female bully-victim partner also do lots of bad things and the bullys are not portrayed as monsters.

With the exception of "his routine" its easy for me to relate to kurasawa ,he is no pretenious pseudogenius like light., and hes also no roboter without interests like light.
Even though the characters are 14 years old its a extremly tough touchy and intriging story.

Onanie Master Kurosawa review
It's inevitably painful to see a cynical character as Kurosawa break down hopelessly after the heartrending reveal Takagawa gets together with Broccoli-san. The situation is complex; our protagonist's hopes are torn to shreds and we can't help but sympathize, yet we know he would be wholly undeserving of being in Broccoli's place. It's painfully real in that it's hopeless that just happens.

Onani Master Kurosawa kicks into higher gears after Kurosawa confessing his sexual assaults as he goes through an immaculate growth; the cynical Hachiman-esque character blossoms into a cautiously optimistic and outgoing person despite the harassment he endures. Particularly moving scenes would be Broccoli convincing Takagawa that Kurosawa is honestly changing, which she deems worthy of respect and forgiveness. Or Kitahara who gets pulled out of being a hikikomori after Kurosawa's incessant one-sided conversations.

Onani Master is so painful because it cuts into familiar territory. Inevitably such a work is best appreciated when relating one's own experiences to it and while not to such extremes, I can relate to the crippling social anxiety and deep-rooted superficial hatred Kitahara carries until eventually locking herself up as a result of her self-hatred. I can relate to being talked out of that by an optimist. I can relate to Kurosawa's facade, worrying deeply about the high school atmosphere and fitting in just barely enough.

But most of all: now I can relate to Kurosawa who strives to be the best he can be. Every step in that development will be met with setbacks, but as long as you are honest and dedicated, good things will come across those who try their best.

Onanie Master Kurosawa review
" Tch, 'I'm coming! I'm coming! '? Blablablabla Weeweewawa, every single one of them is fucking noisy. Whatever, you bunch of scumbags. I still have to go to the girl's toilet for my 'I'm cumming! I'm cumming!' pleasure". This humorous line said by one of my favorite characters of all time, Kurosawa, describes the personality of the pathetic version of himself: a reprobate who looks down on others and adopts a isolationist doctrine; and a revolting good-for-nothing who sexualizes almost every girl he sees and has this weird fetish of jacking off to his imagination of them in the school's girl's bathroom. "Such a deplorable oddball is perfect for the comedy manga that Onanie Master Kurosawa is!" This initial opinion which I had was in fact, wrong.

Onanie Master Kurosawa is so much more than an eccentric comedy -- which you are made to believe that it is in the first few chapters. Rather than a comedy, it is a realistic and heartbreaking story which covers serious topics under a premise which at the start, may seem absurd. To be specific, it's Kurosawa's journey of transitioning from a pathetic loser to a normal human being. I cannot bring myself to spoil this amazing story which unfolds chapter by chapter but what I can say is that this manga follows a standard which I believe should be upheld by all serious stories: the standard of having a reason for everything. Kurosawa's daily duties (jacking off everyday in the girl's toilet) had a reason. Kurosawa's regression to a truly pathetic state had a reason. Kurosawa's shot at redemption had a reason. Many of the things which should have been ineffable were surprisingly, effable.

To reiterate myself, Onanie Master Kurosawa covers pretty serious topics. Without spoiling anything, I will now try my best to explain the serious topics which this manga covers: the pains of unrequited love and as cliche as it may seem, the importance of having friends.

First and foremost, I will expound on the pains of unrequited love. This topic is perfectly covered through the lens of Kurosawa and Kitahara. Kurosawa and Kitahara fell in love with their respective interests and felt strongly for them. Kurosawa even felt pain in his heart, erected his pole until one could literally call it a metal flag pole and vomited at the thought of jacking off to his love interest because he truly loved her. Kurosawa and Kitahara felt happy with this new-found love until they found that this feelings will never be reciprocated. Unrequited love hurts. I can relate to it. You just want to seek revenge on your lover and you feel that it is unfair that they are happy while you're suffering in this envy and pain. The 2 of them had similar feelings but the difference between them and us is that they had a way to hurt them without being found out and because they had a way, they took it. Unrequited love played a huge part in Kurosawa's character progression and the effects (which I cannot mention) led to the emotional journey of Kurosawa's shot at redemption.

The relatability to the 2 of their feelings made it realistic and hence, allowed the story to explore more about unrequited love and the effects of it, which in turn, leads to my next topic: the importance of friends. The importance was highlighted by comparing the different paths taken by Kurosawa and Kitahara when both of them were rejected by society. Both of them were lonely and felt pain from the harassment, but both of them took different steps to go about it and the results showed how important friends are. Kurosawa, the man who once rejected the thought of having friends and was even disgusted by it, realized the importance of it when he was lonely in this world. The man who thought that others' opinion of himself were trivial realized that he absolutely hated being hated by everyone. He could not stand this rejection but when someone befriended him, he was thankful from the bottom his heart. Having a companion helped him get through the harassment. Having a friend made him happy, rather than only sad in a world where everyone condemned him. On the other hand, Kitahara, who also faced harassment, took a different route -- the lonely route. She did not seek companionship; she merely sought revenge. She rejected Kurosawa's attempt at becoming her friend and she continued her journey in being lonely. As a result, she may felt dejected and was at the brink of insanity, while Kurosawa changed for the better. The significance difference in the results from the routes they took from the similar experience they faced made me feel now feel grateful for having friends.

Just an honourable mention before I end this review: the manga's art and the gamut of references perfectly fit the dark, yet comedic tone of the manga.

Ultimately, Onanie Master Kurasawa is not perfect. I just had one problem with it: the cast is small and only Kurosawa received a lot of character development. However, it is just a minor problem because the manga is short, the cast is still likeable and Kurasawa is an S-tier rank character. I had wonderful experience reading Onanie Master Kurasawa; it was funny, emotional, deep and original. I definitely recommend it to everyone. In my opinion, it is a solid 10/10

Onanie Master Kurosawa review
Onani Master Kurosawa is an interesting manga, that caught my eye when I was browsing through the manga database. At first glance, the title suggests that the manga is a perverted story of a student who loves to jerk off, but once you read the synopsis and the manga itself, you realise it is more than that, and rather the "jerking off" is a symbol of what middle school guys do in real life.

Story (9):
The earlier parts of the manga is somewhat "strange" and could be uncomfortable to read for some readers. However, if you can look past the "jerking off" and more of the development of the characters in middle school, and later high school, the story is incredibly captivating for a short series manga. I wont spoil, but the ending and the extra chapter made the manga so much better, because it was nice to see the MC and other characters develop into a more mature person. This develops realism and perhaps it is why this story is short yet sweet.

Art (8):
I actually don't mind the art. The art is not your typical clean drawing, but I like this type of rough art, because it shows a lot of detail in the drawings. Art is not a major factor that affects my decision for scoring an anime however, it is more of a enjoyment/satisfication factor.

Character (9):
The character developments are absolutely amazing. Like I said, I will not reveal too many spoilers, but the final chapter and the extra chapter after it, was goddamn satisfying. Also, I really like the MC's development, of how he moved on from his first love, and now is acquainted with someone else, who we also see "mature" in the last few chapters. If you like some "realistic" developments of characters, I would recommend this.

Enjoyment (9):
The manga was short yet sweet, and that's what makes it so good. I was satisfied with the manga's development that I didn't need to ask for more.

Overall (9):
To be honest, I actually put this on my To Read list for a long time because there were so many other mangas to read. However, I was trying to look for short and unique mangas to read, and I stumbled upon this manga, and I was glad that I found this manga to read. If you don't have that much time on your hands and you want a satisfying manga, this is definitely a would recommend. (P.S. Probably best not to read it in public, people may look at you weirdly)

Onanie Master Kurosawa review
How to react to this ...astonishing...really all I can say. If you manage to get past the first few chapters.

I read this whole thing in one sitting not that its hard with only 31 chapters but on to the review.

The storyline at first can really throw people off thinking that this is a perverted piece of work they wouldn't be completely wrong, it takes a whole different path then what you would expect. So if you really want to see this story take off you must get through the first few chapters. The way this story is told is brings a sense of a daily life of a young man with an odd hobby that at first seems bizarre and sickening. But you see a sense of honor and self-duty in him that brings about and odd girl asking for help, in which after that his life becomes pretty much unexpected.

The characters....well they pretty much make this story what it is. The main character Develops in many ways, we see how much he changes from beginning to end. In fact how the main character has change by the last page of the manga is so different from the the first is one of the best character developing I've seen. This doesn't include many other people who's views have changed. And some characters have such an underlying hidden personality it actually shocks you as the reader.

the art: not the greatest I've seen but its do able and special in its own way, nothing out of this world though.

Enjoyment: very enjoyable, was probably one of the best enjoyments of a doujinshi I've ever read.

Overall: I'd say seriously if your into seriously school life , slice of life: this is for you while it could be said its not completely original, its pretty much earned its right to be. It pushed the boundaries of what is expected of a normal slice of life issue and romance and broke it and made its readers shocked by the results of this mans school life.

Onanie Master Kurosawa review
"Onani Master Kurosawa" , is a Middle School Parody Encompassing a boy who outgrows his habitual performance in the girls restroom, evolving several motifs over the course of its reading including responsibility, friendship, seclusion, and foremost, the malicious nature of humans and its psychological effect it has on its victims, all the while pertaining to the comical essence of its satirical base which creates a truly inimitable story. One thing that is noticeably particular about this manga is the forwardness of the main characters thoughts and fantasies, and how these sinful acts evolve beyond simple amusement becoming something more meaningful as the story progress. Which bring the fact that this review would not be complete without a comment on the creative humor of this story which is held duel facets, the central motifs and of course part of the unique humor. Unlike some mangas not to be named, the humor is sometimes dry and lacking any true meaning, which is where Onani master kurosawa separates itself from other mangas, making a good laugh while still progressing the plot beautifully. This work manages to bears fruits by the unique presentation of the story, leaving the reader with an enjoyable find. Overall, I was quite impressed with the fapping and how far the characters come at the end of the story (Pun intended) If there is any reason to avoid this manga, it would be due to the morbidity of the phallic humor or the jaded plot, however if this humor does not cause you to be fumed with moral righteousness, then this is indeed a rose among the weeds.

Onanie Master Kurosawa review
History: Let's be sensible, history did not have a good start. The beginning is certainly boring, along with that very strange premise. A wanking protagonist is quite unpleasant. That is, leaving aside the final romance and the fact that the protagonist became a character 100% kindness, right?

Art: Although attractive, art is very scribbled, strange and unpleasant to those who see it for the first time. There are many moments that could be a little more impactful if the art were more consistent.

Characters: Of course, not all characters were developed (Hi, Takigawa), however they never showed anything like this as a premise. From the beginning, the focus was on Kurosawa and only him. And, by the way, I did not expect that development at Kitahara ... of course, it was not perfectly developed like Kurosawa, it was even a little flustered, but it was an admirable development.

Enjoyment: It ended up not being what I wanted, or expected from the end, however it wasn't exactly bad. I felt a great pleasure with the end of the work, I even started to love Sugawa thanks to the last chapters... although the protagonist has transformed himself into a good-natured shounen protagonist, the ending was extremely delightful.
That is, apart from the message and metaphor that was used by the author. Using a bathroom as a metaphor to develop the protagonist at the end of the manga was... brilliant!

The work is not a masterpiece, as it has its notorious defects, but it remains excellent and delightful for those who want a good drama with admirable psychological development, this is the work. Final grade: 9.5 / 10

Onanie Master Kurosawa review
its kind of hard to explain how you feel after all you have read ....so many different options could have been chosen,so many unpunished people walked away in this story as if it didnt matter what they did...the last couple of chapters got to me,i can understand how romance can appear from that point...but then again if it was me i would have hold grudges til i sleep in my grave

its a story about a guy who was really acting weird and had a certain fetish that later got him involved with some pretty messed up stuff
Later in the story he decides to stop it all even though he went beserk a chapter before that

After he saw a picture that one of hes "friends"painted he realized that what he was doing is wrong
and the only thing that could fix this kind of situation is to come clean...haha "come" (its funny trust me)so for the next couple of months he was bullied and beat to a pulp once in a while...but some classmates decided that hes confession was enough and they started to hang around him again...he tried to save the person he originally committed crimes with but later on it looked pointless...bcs the person chose the other way of keeping that rage and resentment boiling up(in my opinion the perfect thing to do and pay them back later)...if we skip the rest of the small details
...the main character who got bullied after hes confession by a girl that he violated ,later on became hes friend even though through out the process constantly teased him for hes past crimes.
their middle school reunion started and he received a warm welcome and at the last moment he managed to get the person he did the crimes with to come out of the house and appear at the reunion giving her the chance to start over.
later on Christmas the person who hated him and who was originally bullying him and hes partner in crime ,called him out and forced him to ask her on a date .
that is where it all ends...all in all i dont see this as a parody but as bowing down to your bullies and forcing them to start liking you...its brilliant ....like sci fi......unreal.....
