Fed up, he agrees to transfer to another school intrigued by a mysterious offer and the hope they may know why or how he was able to survive the crash. Arriving at the new school, he learns he must play a little card game with three others before being accepted...one card each, one vicious monster each, one gruesome death for all save one.

This review will be a bit shorter than others because there isn't much substance to the manga. The manga in question is chaosic rune, a dark and edgy take on the card game genre. Forget Yu-Gi-Oh. Forget future card buddy fight. Chaosic rune pulls readers into a Trainwreck of edge and never looks back.

We have our hero ryouga who's parents died in a plane crash several years ago and he was the only survivor. He gets bullied at school because of false rumors that he the corpses of his parents. He doesn't let it get to him as he has more important things to worry about. He accepts an offer from a strange man to transfer to a new "school" but it turns out that the school is actually a deadly institution. There he meet other victims who are given mystical cards that can summon monsters. The goal: fight to the death.

I'll be blunt. Chaosic rune is not an engaging manga with a good story and cool characters. The main appeal of it is the monster battles. It was fun reading a manga that made a grimdark version of cardgames written with the level of class you would expect from a middle school boy. Blood, Carnage and nudity are rampant in almost every chapter and that's what I'm here for. The main character has a dragon called death rex that can erase people from existence. The series mainly consists of a string of bloody battle involving Gore and dismemberment. Only read it if you want to pass the time with something edgy.

Plus, the monster designs are pretty cool.

Story: 6 it’s basically Pokémon meets shin Megami tensei but it’s written as a shounen. I personally find no problem in it other than that it’s a bit cliche and the later half of the story goes a bit off the rails. Also it ends on a cliffhanger ending but at a point where it’s not the worst thing in the world.
Art: 9 The best thing about this manga is the unquie demon designs which go in a monster of the week like order. The end chapter descriptions are always fun to read and have a good full body shot of each creatures design. Plus I enjoy the strange way they emerge from the user. The overall art is also pretty having fun somewhat brutal action scenes with the characters making fine if not a bit of generic facial expressions. Also the Mc main monster has quite a edgy but still badass design.
Character 6: Most of the characters are pretty flat not to the point of being unbearable but don’t expect anything to knew, they all nicely fit into their caricatures fine.
Enjoyment: 7 Honestly it’s pretty enjoyable if you are out of things to read and are looking for a fun, some what darker shouldn’t. Especially if you love manga that present the monster of the week type of story line then you will probably enjoy this manga.
Overal: 7 a solid action manga for sure, it has no particular negatives that really stand out as long as you know what your getting into which is darker pokemon /2000s show that ran that had a collection of monsters.
