JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 6: Stone Ocean review

Stone Ocean is frequently dismissed as a bad JoJo part, and lives in the shadow of part 6. But after reading it, I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and action, and I'm certain when it's animated it will be hype enough to draw attention.

Story: 9/10

Unlike the stories of past JoJo parts, this one is rather unique. It takes directions and themes that aren't in most other shonen stories. There are surprises, confusion and shock. Without spoiling too much, almost everything that is mentioned in the story is relevant later, giving the reader an "aha" moment when they remember the key event of the past. It is a very good story that is really unpredictable.

Art: 7/10

Not much to say here. The detail isn't too outstanding, and it looks similar to part 5's artstyle with some minor differences such as the shapes of the faces and shading. It's not astounding, but it's easy to look at.

Character: 6/10

There isn't much character development. Good people are good, bad are bad. This isn't a bad thing though, as the simplicity keeps you focused on the action. The characters, while static, are also very entertaining, like Anasui or Emporio.

Enjoyment: 8/10

The story is good, and the action is good. Minus 2 points for seemingly aimless and unnecessary combat arcs that add nothing to the plot.

Overall: 8/10

An excellent JoJo part. Far exceeds part 3 and 4. Probably goes even with 5. It starts out good, weakens in the middle but has a very strong end.
