Death Note review
"Absolute power corrupts absolutely": a quote that Light Yagami would have done well to understand. In Death Note, the question of the value of human life and the solution to crime is presented to Light in the form of the Death Note in question, and the events that ensue are one hell of a ride.

The story of Death Note grips you at every single stage, and never lets you go. Even when the main cast of characters change into slightly less-enjoyable counterparts (cough Near), the excellent story-telling is preserved. The story begins with a young Light finding a mysterious notebook while on his way home from school. Written inside are rules that state 'whoever's name is written in this book will die'. Believing it to be a hoax, Light jokingly tries it out on a criminal that he can see on a nearby TV. To his surprise, the criminal is found dead of a heart attack. This is all it takes for Light to be convinced that he has a higher purpose in life: to become a god of the new world. Soon thereafter, news agencies begin to see a trend developing and realize that there must be murder plot, and so they call in the world's greatest detective, 'L'. He becomes Light's prime enemy in the series, and the intellectual battle between the two geniuses is quite simply one of the greatest stories put to paper. When Light's secondary antagonists come onto the scene, they seem to pale in comparison to 'L', but if you can look past that , they are enjoyable on their own merit. The ending is a source of much contention to many fans; I will not spoil anything but whether or not you are on team Light or team 'L' will drastically change your reaction to the ending. I found it very satisfying, all things considered, and the tension in the final confrontation is again some of the best written in manga.

The art, as always with Takeshi Obata, is absolutely stunning, and it only gets better as you go along. There is so much detail in every panel that you may find yourself getting lost in each and every scene, admiring the way his hair and faces just appear perfectly natural. If you pick up the black edition like I did, you are greeted with some beautiful colour pages at the ends of the volumes.

The characters are a perfect mix of likeable and hate-able, which makes it very hard to choose sides in this manga. Even though Light is a bat-shit crazy serial killer, I can't help but root for him through every step of the way, just like how 'L' is trying to stop my favourite character and arrest him; I still get excited for 'L's' victories, because they are all equally enjoyable. The Shinigami, basically gods of death who grant Death Note's to humans, provide most of the comic relief in the manga, and all three of the main Shinigami are done very well, each with their own distinct personalities. This is also true of the Japanese Task Force, which is present through ought the entirety of the manga and thus you get to know each of the characters and their tropes very well. The only slightly weak characters are the aforementioned second antagonists to Light; they aren't terrible, but they pale in comparison to 'L', so they end up feeling like a useless waste.

I actually watched the anime first. In fact, Death Note was my first anime and remains to be my favourite. This was also the manga that got me into reading and collecting the medium, and I couldn't have picked a better series. With the manga, I got to experience Obata's gorgeous art and Ohba's story in their original form, and it was very interesting to see how the endings differed and the theory that Matsuda presents at the very end totally changed my perception of the ending.

Overall, Death Note has treated me, once again, with a fantastic and thrilling treat. I can safely recommend both the anime and manga to anyone even slightly interested in either, as they are nearly perfect. And hell, I know its great for beginners because it totally converted me. Death Note is one of the few mainstream series that is actually worth the hype, and nearly all snobby anime elitists will even agree with that sentiment. If you want an engaging story that treats you like an adult, then this manga is for you. 10/10

One Piece review
Thinking about reading this series? You are obviously skeptic. No kidding. You have every right to be dead scared to even attempt One Piece. I do not blame you, not at all. Most of us did not think we would like it at first, either. In this review, I am just going to simply tackle your skepticism and that is it. If you are skeptic, it is for one or more of the following reasons:

1. Length- It is long. You may think that there is no possible way that you can follow a series this long. You may think that it could go downhill after awhile and let you down.
2. Art- The art is crazy. It is absolutely nuts, and don`t let anybody tell you otherwise. You are completely right when you think that the art is weird, because it is simply that.
3. Popularity- This is deadly popular and mainstream. Popular things often turn off one who likes intelligent anime, due to obsessive young fanbases or for other reasons.
4. Genre- You may be a seinen fan, like me, or a fan of some other random genre. Either or, One Piece looks stupid and completely childish. You are not alone- it is acceptable to assume that your chances of liking this manga are slim.

That out of the way, of course I will tell you that this manga is good. What else were you expecting? I cannot sit here and try to give you a critical review, evaluate the pros and cons, because there are no major cons. I am completely beat. If you are searching for an intelligent review that effectively lists the pros and cons of this manga, it is going to be difficult to find. Any bad things in this manga are not even worth mentioning, because they are overshadowed by the awesome. That sounds immature, but it is absolutely true. The thing about One Piece is that you either really love it, or you really hate it. Isn't it the same for everything that is unique?

Now, I will tackle the four points I made before:

1. Length- Every reader that enjoys One Piece will be begging for more at the end. Once you get into it, the chapters will fly by. This series does not let you down. It keeps improving, honestly. Even after 600 chapters, it is still fresh and interesting. It also maintains structure. Even the stupidest people would not be able to follow One Piece religiously like they have.
2. Art- Yes, it is screwed up. It takes awhile to get used to. Try to deal with it for a little awhile, because you will get used to it. Once you adapt to the strange art style, you may fall in love with it. You may find that the art is excellent at expressing both comedy and emotion.
3. Popularity- The manga has extremely high ratings, no matter where you look. Most popular things suck, I know. But my hands are tied. I do not want to be cliché and say that this is popular for a reason, but it truly does deserve its popularity. I mean, seriously, just look at it. This series is about colorful pirates. A. Rubber. Pirate. There is no way something like this could maintain high ratings and gain popularity among all ages without being good inside the book.
4. Genre- One Piece is shonen, but it is also its own genre, and I will repeat this phrase. An interesting fact is that more adults read this series than kids. I can see why. It has more than enough material for adults to enjoy. It may give you a laugh when you are feeling suicidal.

And maybe you won`t like this manga. Maybe you won`t like One Piece at all, but that is fine, because it is not for everyone. In my opinion, this manga is for anybody who is open minded to everything. Do not read it with the intention of dropping it, because you will do just that. Do not read it critically, trying to find extreme character and plot development, because this is a shonen. It does not have psychological warfare for seinen fans, or love stories for shoujo fans. Another thing that differs One Piece from other series’ is that it does not completely fall into the stereotypical shonen genre. While it is shonen, with its fights and non-stop action, it is something else entirely. I can`t even compare it to anything. It creates its own unique universe, and you will understand what I mean if you read it. And especially do not compare it to Naruto or Bleach, because One Piece is just too screwed up compared to them. While the shonen genre is generally screwed up by itself, this manga is an enhanced version of WTF. You need to be open minded to deal with it. I am calling One Piece is messed up, because it is, but it is also intelligent.

Did I just call this retarded looking manga intelligent? Now you definitely must think I am stupid, and maybe I am. Heck, you need to be a little bit insane to enjoy this series. There are many different ways to define an "intelligent series", and I call a series is intelligent when the creator puts a lot of time, research, and thought into it. A manga is intelligent when it maintains enjoyment throughout. The characters come to life, creates its own world, and the audience does not feel like they are reading the manga, but they feel like they are a part of the action. A work is especially intelligent when it goes down in history. This manga plays a significant part of Japanese culture and it has affected the lives of people around the world. Of course, there are many other definitions of an intelligent work, and One Piece will fit most, if not all, definitions. You can tell that the creator is having as much fun drawing it as we are reading it.

I may call One Piece intelligent- but remember, I am also calling it messed up. It is one of those things that is so weird that it becomes intelligent. You will not read anything else that can really relate to its craziness, because One Piece is a big gourmet dish made with insane ingredients. It looks awful, and when you first taste it, it may still be gross- but then after tasting it some more, you become starved without it.

Yes, it has a structured plot that is well planned out. Yes, it has character development. They are as multidimensional as shonen characters can possibly get. This is hard to believe at first, but One Piece is full of surprises. You will indeed end up falling in love and sympathizing with everyone. This series is highly enjoyable, and it will make you laugh. The character interaction is absoutely hysterical and you never get tired of it. Occasionally, it may even put you on an emotional rollarcoaster. Do not be afraid to enjoy this manga. If you like it, you will not regret reading it. It is not going to contaminate you. You can just stick with the manga, which is the only masterpiece in the series anyway.

It is not going to take your entire life to read it. There is no need to go on to the anime. However, you may feel the need to watch the anime, because the manga is that good. Just stop worrying, and just go try it. You may even end up finding out that, being as messed up and stupid as this manga is, it actually deals with a lot of real themes that express human nature and emotion. If you are not a shonen fan, but you are open to new things, give it a try anyway. Once you get comfortable with this strange series, you are in for one hell of a ride.

Battle Royale II: Blitz Royale review
This is a sequel to a good manga. This is not a good manga. As a matter of fact, I rank Battle Royale 2 among the worst manga that I have ever read. I had always heard bad things about it, but I assumed they must have been exaggerated or superficial. All of my expectations were shattered. This is the exact opposite of what a sequel should be. Everything that the first Battle Royale did right, this manga does entirely wrong. It takes all of the first's strengths and turns them completely on their head. Battle Royale featured a cast of very flawed teenagers and made us feel sympathetic towards them. This sequel features a group of idealized and unrealistically innocent teenagers only because it lacks the finesse to make us feel for a flawed character. It tries to make the characters more sympathetic with their over-the-top innocence, but it achieves the opposite effect due to how unrealistically they are portrayed. The characters would all describable in one word, that is if they would be if they showed any sort of consistency. The cast of characters was reduced from the original in quantity as it was in quality, the scope and ambition of the work decreasing proportionally.

The art suffers from the same fatal flaw as the characterization. The gritty and detailed art of the original Battle Royale is cast aside for a poorly sketched cartoonish abomination; comically huge ears and noses are the norm. The characters' faces aren't even drawn with a consistent amount of shittyness, the proportions changing constantly. It's not "different" or "creative," it's simply atrocious and it makes absolutely no aesthetic or symbolic sense. It was done because it was easy to draw. After it tries and fails to make a sweet and innocent atmosphere to contrast with the plot, it only serves to detract from the quality of the manga.

Despite this abominable gimmick of an art style, Battle Royale 2 paradoxically takes itself more seriously than its predecessor, and all of the comic relief and satire from the first is absent. As are the quality action and tactics, but that somehow becomes a minor concern compared to all of this manga's other unforgivable and blatant flaws.

The plot starts off somewhat similarly to its predecessor, but it quickly veers off into sheer nonsensicality and a complete lack all of logic. Characters' actions make absolutely no sense at all, nothing is explained, and some important plot events were simply physically impossible. It lacks continuity and it seems to not even take place in the same universe as the first, nor does the royale itself occur in a remotely similar way. Also, rather than portraying a slow degradation into madness, important parts of the plot and the character development are skipped over entirely. The conclusion could not be called a conclusion by any stretch of the imagination; it just kind of tapers off without much of a climax, and with the reader having absolutely no idea what the fuck they just read.

I have no clue who could have possibly thought that this sequel was a good idea, but they are clearly in possession of an extraordinary lack of intelligence or good taste. Or they are just very lazy. Or this manga was simply a cash-in on the popularity of Battle Royale. Or, my personal favorite, all of the above. I can think of no other reason than greed for this to have been labelled a sequel of Battle Royale. Any similarities between the two are fleeting and conceptually superficial at best.

ZANNEN NAGARA CHIGAIMASU review
When I finished reading this short one-shot, I was laughing my guts out, not like there was any funny scenes, but I was laughing at how absolutely horrible this was. Despite only being 20 pages, there's at least four or five times in this one shot that make you go, "What the fuck?! Haha, that's crazy!" And I hope that this is a one-shot that was made as a joke and not an actual manga (I apologize for my blunt harshness but it's true.)

Story (3): I guess you could call this story a "Love at First Sight" kind of story. The boy (or man, I should say) literally saw the girl and became lusted by her looks, then asked her to meet him on the top floor near the escalator. What's even more funny about this is that she agrees to it and willingly takes the time to walk to him even though she had never seen him before in her whole entire life. And not even knowing his name, she's seemingly in absolutely love with him. The rest of the plot escalates quickly from there and it's quite amusing to read.

The story does probably deserves something lower than a 3 since the story line is absolutely atrocious, but because of how funny the author handled the situation, I'd rate it a 3 at best.

Art (2): I honestly don't even know what to say about the art. It looks like some 2002 shoujo line art gone wrong. It's not mad cringy but you'll probably be surprised when you first see it, and not in a positive way. Though, I did fairly like the usage of the screentones.

Character (1): The characters are very plain. We know extremely little about them (though that's common for a one-shot) and both of them are pretty dense. The man sounds like an arrogant pervert who only wants the girl for her body, not to mention that he's 11 years older than her. The girl acts a little childish, though she is 18 years old and still in high school. She's naive and seems to fall in love wayyy too easily, which could be a good thing, if only they hadn't, literally, JUST met each other.

Enjoyment (4): From my personal opinion, it wasn't something that made me shiver from head to toe in absolute disgust. There were a lot of parts that I didn't like and some parts that I found myself laughing at; this whole thing just kind of felt like a crack manga. Pretty much the whole reason why I'm giving it a 4 is because it made me laugh a lot.

Overall (2.5): I'd rate this a 2.5. (MAL doesn't have decimals so I rounded the overall score to a 3.) I wouldn't really recommend reading this unless you wanna be plagued by bad art and a horrible story line, but that's up to you. The only real thing that would make this one-shot worth reading is the tiny bits of humor in it and the overall laughter of how poorly written this was. I can't even guarantee that you'd laugh to be honest. This may be an okay read if you're looking for a quick read on something light and nonsensical (while still SOMEHOW managing to retain a plot) but if you're looking for an actual GOOD shoujo, then you should look elsewhere.

HOOZUKI-SAN CHI NO ANEKI + IMOUTO review
If you are planning to start reading this manga after finishing the prequel then please don't.

One of the things that makes a certain manga stand out more than others is how good the characters are, with this manga, this is probably the worst character change i have seen in a manga.

Now the biggest disappointment was the female MC, she turned from a kinda annoying yet caring girl to a full on lesbian slut, she had lots of annoying moments in the main series but she was still tolerable but that change made her turn into a completely different character.

To be fair most females in this manga are made out to be sluttish in this manga. I think mizuno was the only one who still had her original traits.

The male MC is now a molesting piece of shit.

The yandere is a full on slut that turned from "we will be together forever" into "I fuck these men to get practise to be good for you"

The tomboy girl is still as is i guess.

The comedy is horrible, it's now one of 3 things: the first is what is going to be put in the Male MC's ass, the 2nd is a slutty joke and the third is the random XD kisses between the 3 MCs.

I think I read the mangaka thanking everyone that read his work and saying it was great and that that was what he wanted to see his manga flourish into and I was extremly disappointed, he turned some OK and good characters into utter shit and that was his goal?! I guess i know which mangaka I will be avoiding next.

Last Annoying thing is that the 5% or so plot in the main manga is 0% in this one, this was truly a waste of time.

Overall 2/10 just cause the art was half decent and mizuno was still a decent human being in the manga, that was truly disappointing.

Hello, this is my first review. Minor to no spoilers. Please tell me if this is a decent review.

Overall - 7
Good read. It had great potential but turned into an unfathomable thing from when you started the manga. Like chewing gum, starts tasty and delicious then turns into a piece of rubber in your mouth that you want to spit out, but you keep it in your mouth thinking the flavor would come back, but it doesn't.

Story - 7
The story revolves around a guy that finds out he is living next to a killer. He finds out by peeping through a hole in a wall. They end up dating each other because she wanted acceptance.
I think this manga has a pretty low score because it started out pretty good, then it devolved into a shounen esque thing with romance and had a wannabe psychological trait.

---Spoiler---
It has one of the worst ending known to man, it's way too rushed and it tries to tie loose by killing everyone off and boom semi-random child.
---Spoiler End---

Art - 8
I can't say much about art since I focus on story detail rather than artistic detail, but this manga has good art.

Character - 6.5 ---Spoiler---
The characters are pretty well developed but it feels somewhat rushed, as in their(protagonist) emotions go from get away from me to I love you in what feels like four chapters. You do get a bit of backstory for the MC which is he is a straight A Student that felt over pressured by his peers and dropped out of college. As for female MC she has seen her brother kill some woman no one know then she starts wanting to kill, then her brother suddenly wants to die after awhile so tries to commit suicide but she finds him she kills him. Just kinda felt like that was thrown at me.

Enjoyment - 6
It had its moment but they were empty.
