Monster is often hailed as one of the best manga series of all time. While I don’t think it's perfect like many other readers do, it is definitely worth a read. Its many thrills and continuously perplexing mystery makes Monster a page turner, yet the pacing frequently slows down and drags. In many chase scenes, for example, the climax is abruptly cut off by a fire or character injury, which results in several chapters of down time. This is also when the story gets bogged down by minor characters. These short-lived, but positive relationships are tied to the themes of the manga, but if most of them had been cut, the series could have been a little better.

Thematically, Monster is about the opposing forces of love and indifference. Although he mostly works off-page, Johan makes for a fantastic villain. He has great influence over others and his many followers kill without remorse. Tenma represents love. He stops to take care of any sick or hurt person he comes across. As a doctor, he believes every human (except Johan) deserves to live. Anna is in the middle, trying to find her place and uncover her true self.

Naoki Urasawa’s Monster is a classic manga series. Despite its frequent pacing issues, I still recommend it.

First of all this is a very well written Light Novel.

I read this in English and not in Japanese. The story is very interesting that I end up reading it in one sitting. The story is about a boy named Masaya Kishitani that commit a suicide that left a will that says "Taku Sugawara is the devil. Nobody should believe his words" and his sister Sanae Kishitani try to unfold the reason of her brothers suicidal death. The way the mysteries were unravel was outstanding.

The aspect of the story that I like so much was the way it tackled a very delicate topic like "bullying".

Give this a try, It's a very short but satisfying read.

A brief and entertaining one-shot for those who understand firstly that this is bizarre and explicit. Other reviewers seem to feel that there's nothing going for the story meaning-wise to justify, in a sense, the goings-on. It's one thing for a manga to entertain through strange happenings, but when a manga attempts to directly philosophize it and bring meaning to it, the audience suddenly shrinks. I'd actually wager that if the mangaka took a more subtle approach it might've connected better with people, as while we all understand words on a basic level, we don't all understand things well through the same use of them.

Anyways, "The Voices That Call Me" is a mild exploration of the "hikikomori", which is a person who chooses to live to themselves within a room - their finances sustained by another. This story in particular explores the basic idea that every human being seeks companionship, but that through the experience of a hikikomori they grow to only really care about themselves. The hikikomori's search for companionship shows how although they want interaction, it's down to a physical level. We're social creatures, so it goes to show how much of an outcast this hikikomori truly is, even if he leaves his room right now. It goes to show they can't re-enter society without assistance.

Honestly, this Mangaka, Akira san, is still on something after completing "Prison School". After scanning through the first chapter of this manga (and eventually 9 chapters), I want to use multiple “confused Nick Young” or (◉◇◉) ? as my emoji signs. But!... WHO CARES??? I can’t tell if this mangaka is making an effort or not making an effort on creating the plot. Even if he IS making the effort, this story is extremely weak. Basically, if you take this plot seriously, you lose. Thus, 1 for potential no effort or 5 for potential effort.


Art: 8
This is a very controversial category. If I say 10, some readers will say I disrespect female audiences (the drawing angles of some characters can be uncomfortable from time to time). Yet, if I say 5, I will be lying to myself (in my opinion, Akira san excels in drawing female figures and face expressions.) Eventually, I decided a 7.51 will do. This makes the rounding easier to an 8...

When I read any manga, i switch between two different kinds of brains: one with brain cells and one without brain cells. As you can tell, the one without brain cells gives me the most enjoyment while scanning through this manga. Thus, an easy 10 for simply “PURE” brainless laughs. (1 for using my brain xP )

For someone who read manga to relieve stress, this can be rated pretty high (more than 6 is pretty high imo). Yet, for someone who simply wants to gain knowledge and find its intrinsic value, this is definitely worth 0. As a simple man who just want some good laugh, I will give this a 7 (-3 for not using my brain cells). I want to see where and how extreme Akira san will take us... LMAO....

A fun early Manga from Tezuka. The bulk of the manga is a lighthearted adventure story with the typical (but amusing) trappings of shipwrecks, pirates and island adventure. The end throws a curveball that’s (by far) the standout moment and recontextualizes the manga in an interesting way. This twist shows that, even early on, Tezuka wanted substance from the comics medium. Don’t expect an adaptation of Treasure Island, this has hardly anything to do with the original novel. The manga is rather western in appeal, feeling closer to a Little Nemo in Slumberland or old newspaper gag comics than contemporary manga. The art style is closer to “rubber hose” than I was expecting, but overall the character design is the most appealing part, it’s so cute! Strong poses from the characters as well. The uniform panels make you appreciate the power of modern panelling.

Read this if you want a quick peek into the bridge between older American comics and manga, or if you’re in the mood for a short and sweet fairy tale. Avoid if you can’t stomach classic newspaper comics, this is one half step away from those.

As you might guess from the low MAL rating, "Lumen Lunae" isn't all that great. I can't quite decide if it's tasteless, or just cheesy. The plot is extremely thin, the pacing is terribly rushed, and the biggest emphasis is on shounen-ai fanservice.

The story takes place between earth and the demon world (where humans live as food and slave labor for the demons). Kai is a half demon of sorts who is ordered to kill his human mother. If he kills her, everything will be fine for him. When Kai decides he can't kill her after all, lots of demons show up to take care of the job for him.

That's pretty much the extent of the plot. Other things happen in the story, but they are only setups to provide scenes of sadistic torture, or semi-BL...let's say "interaction." All the male characters have a hobby of randomly kissing each other (if not more). Everything is very rushed, and we keep tumbling at a mad rush from one scene to the next. There are also several leaps of the imagination, and lots of improbable things happen (such as Kai's mom guessed he was her son before he told her...but why would she think a high-schooler was her son, when he should have still been a baby?).

The art is very old-fashioned. I'll give it some credit since it's pretty easy to tell the different characters apart. But they are all very sharp-faced and have eyes that are either slits, or too big.

Overall, it's a rather trashy series made for readers who are just desperate for some shounen-ai, and are fine with a story that has practically no plot.

uhhhhhh so the concept is dope. it's a very unique story, definitely nothing i've seen before. when i heard about the concept i knew i needed to read this.

oh boy i didnt know what i was getting myself into

the longer the story went on, the worse it got. the characters were boring and sometimes irritating. plot twists were being pulled out of nowhere and it just completely took away from the once unique story. oh yeah plus it got a bit predictable and the ending was a half-assed attempt at something deep but ended up being cliche and awkward (and ruined a character but most characters were bad to begin with)

on the bright side, the gore and death scenes are what made me actually sit through and finish this manga. they were so detailed and gruesome even if sometimes unrealistic. i mean unless all these people were actually wax figures without bones in their bodies.

overall the story was half-good, half-dogshit and thats what ruined the whole manga. everything else was either good, decent or at least tolerable. in my eyes that deserves a 6/10 cause it really wasn't that good, but it wasn't bad.

i wouldn't recommend anyone to read it unless they want to find out what brought the manga down or if they wants to see the shreds of a good story and an original thrilling concept. oh yeah plus the death scenes :)

It is a cutesy silly fun/comedy with a bit of romance and some ecchiness in it.

Basically we have relatively simple premise, and relatively predictable and even cliched characters that interact with each other. Female Lead tries to act serious something happens, he instead becomes embarrassed and blushes. Or some of the other characters perform their own hijinks.

It is not exactly deep, and it is mostly about multiple character interacting with each other in exaggerated way for comedy purposes. In a sense, it resembles "fun/comedy" part of harem comedy, although this one is geared towards romance rather than harem.

6/10 for story, art, character, enjoyment and overall.

The story isn't exactly deep and chapters aren't really long, but it revolves around comedic shenanigans and getting female lead embarrassed in a fun way. It serves its purpose, although there seems to be overarching storyline.
I'd like to point out that this title is not exactly lewd, and "embarassment" mostly comes from "romantic" situations....

Art is actually good. Characters are well drawn and display their personalities well, although the style is not unique. There's more details than you'd usually see in other works.

Characters are mostly comedy actors, so you can't expect deep life-like interactions here, but for comedy purposes they work really well.

I found this to be fun, and I'd recommend to check it out. It is not a masterpiece, but it can be amusing.

Development:
The work focuses on two pillars: A Young Soul Sender and Spirits/Entities.

These entities, when alive, bless living beings with their graces, but when they die, they begin to curse everything that is in their return. Because of this, there are Soul Senders who through rituals help to purify the bodies of the spirits, freeing them from physical form.

Script:
I found this work very interesting, because besides possessing a very beautiful art, it uses Shaman, Arab and Oriental culture to create a unique and mystical mythology.
The story is not heavy, but it is very reflective.

Art:
The art is very simple in relation to the characters and very detailed in the entities, making the work focus on history and script.

The simplicity of art makes it more appreciative and contemplative.

Resume:
If you like works that unite mythologies, magic, shamans and entities this work will surely please you.

Moreover, we also have the fact of the influence of entities on humanity, showing that history is well lived.

And finally, if you like the genre Kaiju, or have played Shadow of the Colussus, the entities remind you a lot of the creatures of this game and surely this type of giant entities will please you.

I really liked anime. It's a great mystical story that makes you think. Usually manga is better than its screen version and I began reading Air.

The art is rather simple, without lots of shadows. Eyes look like glass, their expression don't change. It's a big minus, isn't it? I mean, in anime seiyu can fix some lacks of grafic with their voice but manga's art must "sound" and "live" that reader should believe it.

The storytelling is really bad. There was left only Misuzu's arc. But how about other girls, Minagi, Kano, Michiru? The answer is easy. Their arcs isn't showed. They are just like filler character and story looks incomplete.

I disliked Air manga because of its emptyness. Yes, it's empty. It didn't show feelings, emotions. Better watch the anime, manga is a real waste of time.
