She is secretly a monster who devours scumbags in order to "change" them.

Her human self was tortured and murdered by Masahiko's father after she tells everyone that Masahiko stole her panties.

It is revealed in the last two chapters of the manga that she loved Masahiko and was only mean to him for that reason.
